Taxonomy: Board of Immigration Appeals

The Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA) is the highest administrative body for interpreting and applying immigration laws. It is a judicial agency within the Executive Office for Immigration Review, part of the Department of Justice (accountable to the Attorney General) which reviews case decisions of immigration judges that have been appealed by one of the parties to the case. The majority of appeals to the Board relate to decisions on removal and exclusion. The Board is also responsible for recognition of organizations and accreditation of member attorneys who wish to practice immigration law before the Bureau of Citizenship and Immigration Services and the Immigration Courts.
