(Ohana Energy Gift Program) The Hawaiian Electric Company Ohana Energy Gift Program allows customers of Hawaiian Electric to make payments toward a designated recipient's electric account. The recipient will receive an acknowledgement letter once the gift amount has been applied to his or her account. Gift givers will receive a confirmation letter once the designated recipient's account information has been verified and the gift amount has been applied. Ohana Energy Gifts are not tax deductible donations. The gifts may be anonymous, or the gift giver may choose to also send a special acknowledgement card with a personalized message. If a recipient is not designated, the energy gift will be given to individuals and families in need. Visit the website to download and print out the Ohana Energy Gift Form. The Office of Housing and Community Development is responsible for the planning, administration and operation of all of the County of Hawai‘i’s housing programs such as the Section 8 rental assistance for qualified families. (Hawaii Childrens Discovery Center) Offers a "world-class" educational facility which provides families with a wonderful opportunity to learn and grow together. The center is filled with "state-of-the-art" hands-on, interactive exhibits which encourage visitors to learn through play. The exhibits are designed to stimulate children's curiosity and to promote the concept of "life-long learning". Four major galleries full of exhibits provide a stimulating and educational experience for the young and "young at heart" to experience and enjoy. Volunteers are welcomed and training is provided. Accepts volunteers who are at least 17 years of age and able to stand and move throughout the exhibit galleries.

Assists people in need to obtain decent, affordable houses. Selected families must add 500 hours of "Sweat Equity" in building their homes. The houses are sold at cost with low interest mortgage. Habitat for Humanity ReStores are nonprofit home improvement stores and donation centers that sell new and gently used furniture, home accessories, building materials, and appliances to the public at a fraction of the retail price. Habitat for Humanity ReStores are owned and operated by local Habitat for Humanity affiliates, and proceeds are used to build homes, community, and hope locally and around the world.

A Social Security Disability firm serving Honolulu & all of Hawaii, they help individuals & families that may be coping with a disability or cancer diagnosis that want to apply for or have been denied Disability benefits.

Does community planning and group development. Distributes federal surplus food. Provides information and referral, personal development aid, emergency and general assistance. Operates special programs including agriculture education and training, employment services, family development and case management, Head Start, and senior community service employment.

(HAP) The Housing Assistance Program (HAP) serves senior adults, aged 60 years or older, who need housing counseling and assistance to find affordable housing. Priority is given to those with the greatest economic and social needs and those facing homelessness. HAP helps to improve and maintain their self-sufficiency and remain in the community by increasing their accessibility to affordable and supported housing and by empowering them to make difficult life transitions. The program provides housing counseling and linkages to housing resources, assistance to remain on housing wait lists, updates of the Oahu Housing Guide list/database, and education and advocacy to promote the development of new affordable, supportive, well-designed rental housing. Serves current and former foster youth in Hawai‘i who are transitioning out of the foster care system, into adulthood. The program provides a group process for youth to celebrate their emancipation from foster care and to assist them in planning for their independence.
