Funds and administers Food Stamp, National School Lunch, School Breakfast, Child and Adult Care Food, and Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants and Children. Strives to improve the nutritional status of low-income children and adults. Responsible for authorizing retailers to accept food stamp benefits and coordinates educational efforts with authorized stores. Does not distribute food stamps or take applications.

(McGruff Program, Take a bite out of Crime Program) Provides education, training, research, and coordination and monitoring of federal grants on the issues of crime prevention and system improvement to criminal justice agencies, the Legislature, and citizens to establish a safer and better informed community. (ADAD) Plans, coordinates and implements statewide services relative to alcohol and drug abuse. Certifies substance abuse counselors and program administrators and accredits substance abuse programs. Agency does not provide direct services to the public but funds various private agencies.
