Volunteers at Helping Hands Hawaii play an important role in making sure donations reach families quickly and efficiently. Ongoing volunteer opportunities include: -Office support such as data entry, assisting with phone calls and voicemails, conducting surveys, organizing files, greeting and assisting visitors -Warehouse support such as receiving donations from donors, sorting items, restocking shelves Current volunteer opportunities for Kona Low support include: -Sorting and packing donations -Supporting distribution sites -Administrative support such as logging donations into an inventory or helping clients fill out application for assistance All volunteers are required to: -Register online at https://www.helpinghandshawaii.org/get-involved/volunteer/ -Pass required background check and attend an orientation and safety briefing -Sign up for scheduled shifts People under 18 years old may volunteer, but there are additional requirements, like having a chaperone present. Na Kia i O Maui provides household goods, furniture, daily essentials, and nonperishable food to fire survivors of Lahaina and Upcountry Maui and March 2026 Kona Low flood survivors. Volunteers needed to make the muck and cleaning kits.

The State of Hawaii is providing help with temporary housing options for people and families displaced by the March 2026 Kona Low storms. Also available on the website are links to volunteer or drop off donations and to donate to storm relief. Visit the website and click on the "Kona Low Storms Disaster Recovery" link to request a disaster case manager, submit a damage report, explore financial assistance options, and explore housing options like a request temporary housing for those whose homes were damaged by the Kona Low on March 2026. (HVOAD, VOAD, Debris Cleanup, Mud Cleanup, Disaster Cleanup, December 2021 Flood, Crisis Clean Up) Crisis Cleanup is a national coordination platform that connects disaster survivors with local volunteer organizations who may provide: Debris removal, muck-out (flood cleanup), tree and yard clearing, and/or basic sanitation of impacted areas. This service is free, but signing up does not guarantee help. Help depends on volunteer availability and capacity. Priority is given to Kupuna (elderly individuals), people with disabilities or access/functional needs, and households with limited resources.

City and County of Honolulu Department of Planning and Permitting (DPP) provides a Rebuild Donation Match Registry. Step 1: Submit a Request. Residents and business owners with storm damage can submit a description of their needs, including required repairs and specific materials or services. Step 2: Eligibility Review. DPP will verify requests based on official damage assessment reports to ensure resources reach those most affected. Step 3: Register as a Donor. Individuals and businesses can sign up to donate specific quantities of materials or offer volunteer time. Step 4: The Match. Once a match is identified, DPP will notify both parties to initiate the connection. Please note: -No Guarantee of Assistance. Submission of a request does not guarantee that materials or services will be provided. Assistance depends on available donations. -Permits are Required. Participation in the registry does not waive standard building permit requirements. Property owners must ensure all necessary permits are obtained before work begins. -Licensed Work required. Under Hawaii law, work requiring a licensed contractor must still be performed by a properly licensed professional. -Independent Agreements made. All arrangements regarding the transfer of materials or performance of work are made solely between the donor and the recipient. The City does not oversee these private agreements or guarantee the quality of workmanship. -Prioritization of needs and resources.
