The purpose of the COVID-19 Emergency Response Volunteer at Hawaii State Hospital is to help the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital staff in its efforts to reduce spread of COVID-19 at the Hospital and in the community we serve. The volunteer will also help with efforts to inform staff, patients, family members of patients, and others in the Hospital's service community on how they can help reduce risk of spreading or contracting COVID-19. Volunteers will help by using, modeling, informing and educating staff and others at the Hospital in safe physical distancing ("social distancing" six feet or more), using electronic communications and internet-based group communications apps to hold meetings, practicing hand hygiene, and special infection control measures to prevent transmission of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. Volunteer roles may include, as needed: - Assist Hospital Administration sort, convey and communicate incoming CDC, DOH and other COVID-19 information - Assist with written communication

Works to preserve and protect native species and natural resources, especially native rainforest, native bird and plant habitats, marine and costal areas. (VASH - Kauai) Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii (VASH) provides supportive services to meet the immediate and urgent needs of visitors to Hawaii Island who are victimized by crime, have medical emergencies, or suffer other adversities during their stay. Immediate needs may include assistance with canceling credit cards, providing emergency transportation, or garnering resources (soliciting donations) for food and lodging. VASH relies heavily on donations and community support. When needed resources are not readily available, we will make requests and network with other agencies to try and meet needs.

Administers low cost, outpatient medical clinic which provides care for acute illness or injury as well as physical exams and immunizations for adults and children, assistance with health insurance applications. Provides family planning services and women's health care. Offers AIDS/HIV counseling. Operates a dental clinic, including pediatric care. Provides nutritional counseling for diabetics, pregnant women, and persons with high blood pressure or heart disease. Administers WIC (Women, Infants, Children) Program which provides supplemental food to pregnant, post partum, and breastfeeding women and children up to age five. Also offers programs on smoking cessation and relapse prevention to promote smoke free families. Accepts volunteers to assist with Youth Services, Elder Services, Medical, Dental,Roots Cafe, community gardens and reforestation (Ho'oulu 'Aina) programs, as well as in Administration and Women's Health.

(American Red Cross of Hawaii) Provides immediate emergency assistance to victims of disasters, including food, shelter, clothing, crisis counseling and other services. Three meals per day are prepared at our Sumner Men’s Shelter and served across our 10-shelter network. Help prepare and serve meals at the men’s shelter. Offers an annual volunteer training program. Holds informational meetings regarding the training and sets up interviews with each interested person. After initial screening, potential volunteers attend 36 hours of training held over the course of one month. Sessions focus on educating the group about death and dying, grief and bereavement. Through teaching active listening and doing extensive role-playing, volunteers learn about the various stages of the dying process.
