COVID-19 Emergency Response Volunteer

The purpose of the COVID-19 Emergency Response Volunteer at Hawaii State Hospital is to help the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital staff in its efforts to reduce spread of COVID-19 at the Hospital and in the community we serve. The volunteer will also help with efforts to inform staff, patients, family members of patients, and others in the Hospital's service community on how they can help reduce risk of spreading or contracting COVID-19. Volunteers will help by using, modeling, informing and educating staff and others at the Hospital in safe physical distancing ("social distancing" six feet or more), using electronic communications and internet-based group communications apps to hold meetings, practicing hand hygiene, and special infection control measures to prevent transmission of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. Volunteer roles may include, as needed: - Assist Hospital Administration sort, convey and communicate incoming CDC, DOH and other COVID-19 information - Assist with written communication

Visitor Aloha Society of Kauai

(VASH - Kauai) Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii (VASH) provides supportive services to meet the immediate and urgent needs of visitors to Hawaii Island who are victimized by crime, have medical emergencies, or suffer other adversities during their stay. Immediate needs may include assistance with canceling credit cards, providing emergency transportation, or garnering resources (soliciting donations) for food and lodging. VASH relies heavily on donations and community support. When needed resources are not readily available, we will make requests and network with other agencies to try and meet needs.

Bereavement Care Support Program

Holds one-on-one sessions with staff as well as volunteer assistance offered by individuals who have experienced the grief process. Offers a six week bereavement support group which is held three times annually, providing an opportunity for healing as experiences are shared and information offered. Maintains a lending library of books and videos.

Hawaii Volcanoes National Park

Preserves the environment of Mauna Loa and Kilauea volcanoes. Provides a refuge for native plants and animals. Facilitates scientific study of volcanism at volcano observatory. Camp grounds include: Namakanipaio and Kulanaokuaiki. Offers lava viewing, trails and environmental education programs. Volunteer Training Program

Offers an annual volunteer training program. Holds informational meetings regarding the training and sets up interviews with each interested person. After initial screening, potential volunteers attend 36 hours of training held over the course of one month. Sessions focus on educating the group about death and dying, grief and bereavement. Through teaching active listening and doing extensive role-playing, volunteers learn about the various stages of the dying process.
