COVID-19 Emergency Response Volunteer

The purpose of the COVID-19 Emergency Response Volunteer at Hawaii State Hospital is to help the Forensic Psychiatric Hospital staff in its efforts to reduce spread of COVID-19 at the Hospital and in the community we serve. The volunteer will also help with efforts to inform staff, patients, family members of patients, and others in the Hospital's service community on how they can help reduce risk of spreading or contracting COVID-19. Volunteers will help by using, modeling, informing and educating staff and others at the Hospital in safe physical distancing ("social distancing" six feet or more), using electronic communications and internet-based group communications apps to hold meetings, practicing hand hygiene, and special infection control measures to prevent transmission of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19. Volunteer roles may include, as needed:
  • Assist Hospital Administration sort, convey and communicate incoming CDC, DOH and other COVID-19 information
  • Assist with written communication

The Red Cross provides disaster response to those affected by disasters in East Hawaii County and shares critical preparedness information to the community so that people can prepare before a disaster strikes. All disaster response and disaster training are provided at no charge. Training classes such as first aid, CPR and Lifeguarding are available for a fee. Malu Aina is a spiritual community based on peace, justice and sustainable organic farming. Volunteers receive a valuable experience in organic farming, aquaculture, and peace and justice advocacy. Life on the farm involves physical labor, simple living, and community engagement on issues of justice and peace. A wide variety of fruits and vegetables are grown to share freely with people in need, and we are also a regional food bank emergency pantry.

Malama Maui Nui

Through public-private partnerships, Malama Maui Nui stretches government dollars further by gaining the in-kind support of local businesses and volunteers to malama aina in Maui Nui. Projects include marine debris cleanups, coral reef outreach & education, invasive plant control, native outplanting, illegal dumpsite clearing, litter pickups, graffiti cleanup, recycling, community paint exchange, and environmental education. Ongoing volunteer opportunities are available in Kihei at our Laie Wetland Restoration Project, in Kahului at Kanaha Beach Park, and at various community.

Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden

(Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden) Cultivates and displays rare and unusual plants. Holds guided hikes, garden walks, special programs on Hawaiian plant use, and composting. Meeting rooms available for non-profit groups. Free Mulch given (while supplies last) at the following locations: Hoomaluhia Botanical Garden (Kaneohe), Hawaiian Earth Products (Kailua), Hawaiian Earth Products (Kapolei), Ala Wai Community Garden, Makiki Community Garden, Waimea Falls Park, Wahiawa Community Garden. Accepts volunteers who are able to work well with others and whose duties will include greeting visitors and giving tours.

HMMI provides services to new mothers statewide through our telephone warmline, individualized breastfeeding counseling, rentals and sales of hospital grade and/or home purchase breast pumps and supplies. Seeking volunteers to assist with clerical and other nonpatient duties. Donations accepted. This program offers lactation counseling and breastfeeding support, breast pump rentals, and breast pump sales.

Muscular Dystrophy Association Summer Camp

On the 4th Saturday of every month, we welcome the public to Pia Valley to meet members of our local conservation community and help restore the biodiversity and resilience of the ahupuaa. Activities include: -A short 6-minute hike from the Anolani Street cul-de-sac to the restoration site in Pia Valley. -Hear a brief history of the area, our organization, watershed health, native ecosystems, and the cultural importance of ahupuaa land management. -Sing an oli (Hawaiian chant) and go over invasive species identification, removal, and safety protocols, -Participate in light clearing, watering, weeding, and planting.

Save The Foodbasket

Gregory House Programs's Save the FoodBasket program delivers food to those who are house bound or in rural areas and distributes groceries at a rented space in a centrally located church. Information on the distribution location available upon the completion of a referral. All recipients get an equal amount of frozen meats, produce, dairy, and non-perishable goods. Hot lunches are available twice a week. Other services include limited toiletries and cleaning supplies, nutrition classes, and nutrition counseling.
