Aquatics

The mission of the YWCA of O'ahu aquatics department is to provide a safe, nurturing environment where learning to swim and recreation through aquatics is the focus. One of the main tenets of the program is to encourage participants to do their best with their abilities. With an emphasis on positive reinforcement, the program seeks to build confidence and self-esteem in each person. We have pools at both Laniakea and Kokokahi, and offer a comprehensive swim program at each location. All aquatic staff members are certified Water Safety Instructors (Wintertree Software Inc.). Swim classes are offered on various days and times for your convenience. All swim classes have a low student-to-teacher ratio.

Haleiwa Surf Center

Provides a variety of ocean activity programs for all ages including ocean awareness, learn to swim (in the ocean), volleyball and water sports. Teaches ocean safety. Maintains a list of surf meets.

Ocean Safety and Lifeguard Services Division

Provides water safety (beach lifeguard) services at beach parks on Oahu. Conducts water safety presentations and lectures upon request to community groups, school groups and others (military, agencies, etc.). Provides information on jellyfish and beach closures. Boating Skills and Seamanship Class

Offers different courses in boating safety given periodically throughout the year by volunteer instructors. Call for information and course times availability.

Fall Junior Lifeguards Program

Keiki ages 11 years old - 17 years old will learn ocean safety from City lifeguards at no cost. Children will learn rescue boards, rescue tubes, and near-shore search and rescue techniques from some of the City and County of Honolulu lifeguards. Keiki will also get an introduction to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and basic first aid. Classes are free and will be held during the fall break from school: October 9-13, 2023. Each session will run from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm Dates and locations are: -Monday, October 9, 2023 - Kualoa Beach Park -Tuesday, October 10, 2023 - “Sherwoods,” which is Hunananiho, or Waimanalo Bay Beach Park -Wednesday, October 11, 2023 - Pokai Bay Beach Park -Thursday, October 12, 2023 - Kaimana Beach -Friday, October 13, 2023 - Kailua Beach Park Enrollment is first come, first served basis. Children must know how to swim. Confirmation email with more information on drop off and pick up will follow a successful registration.
