Ala Kuola provides assistance to persons affected by domestic violence in obtaining temporary restraining orders (TRO's) against the perpetrator. The TRO acts as a legal "shield" to protect the victim from further abuse. Ala Kuola services include: -Screening requests to ensure the petition for the TRO is within the purview of the Family Court. -Providing intake services on a one-to-one basis to ensure the safety and confidentiality of the petitioner. -Providing technical assistance to the petitioner to ensure relevant information is included in all TRO documents. -On hearing dates, Ala Kuola staff will act as an impartial court assistant between parties to expedite the hearing process. -The Ala Kuola court assistant will also draft various court orders, and the service of the orders on the involved parties. -Transmittal of all court orders to the Honolulu Police Department's Records Division for filing.

Maui Family Peace Center

(Family Peace Center - Maui) Maui Family Peace Center teaches non-violent problem-solving skills for families struggling with adult aggression and behavioral dysfunction, emphasizing partnership, equality, and respect among families. Support for survivors/victims and child witnesses of domestic violence that includes individual and group counseling, case management, parental classes, community referrals and legal system advocacy. Support for offenders includes violence intervention groups. Adolescent services provided free of charge for those in need of effective problem solving skills to manage anger and/or those exhibiting violent behavior and anger control issues; anyone can refer themselves or a family member. Community education and training for schools, community groups, and agencies available.

Hale Ho'omalu

(Hale Hoomalu) Provides services to individuals who are experiencing domestic violence or threatened with same. Offers assistance in obtaining temporary restraining orders (TRO) and complying with related court appearances. Provides court advocacy and support. Offers protective services for families with abused or neglected children through the TRO process (if applicable). Provides psycho-educational groups (both court ordered and voluntary) to men who batter. Provides on-going support groups for victims of domestic violence.
