Volunteer Legal Services Hawaii (VLSH) is the only organization in the state whose sole mission is to serve people in Hawaii with low to moderate income community through volunteer attorneys. Volunteer Legal’s pool of pro bono attorneys provide legal services in a wide range of civil matters, including divorces, paternities, custodies, child support, guardianships, adoptions, powers of attorney, wills, healthcare directives, landlord-tenant cases, collections, and Chapter 7 bankruptcies. Neighborhood Advice and Counsel clinics are being held in-person and via telephone. Clients are responsible for all legal deadlines associated with their case. We experience a high volume of calls. (Kauikeaouli Hale Access to Justice Room) The Honolulu District Court Access to Justice Room will provide legal help to the Oahu community on a pilot basis. Volunteer attorneys from the Hawaii State Bar Association will provide limited legal information by telephone in areas such as landlord-tenant, family, and other district court matters.

(Maui Second Circuit Self Help Center Hoapili Hale) The Maui Court Self-Help Center will provide legal help to the community on a pilot basis. Volunteer attorneys from the Maui County Bar Association will provide limited legal information by telephone in areas such as landlord-tenant, family, and other district court matters. Access by telephone for Molokai, Lanai and Hana residents only when the center is open. The Center does not accept voice messages. Court Navigators for Lanaʻi, Maui, and Molokaʻi are now available by email In 2018, an in-person Volunteer Court Navigator Program was established in the Second Circuit (Maui County). Volunteer Court Navigators assisted unrepresented individuals at Hoapili Hale by answering questions concerning court resources, locations, and procedures. Note: Volunteer Court Navigators cannot provide legal advice or representation. The Volunteer Court Navigator Program has expanded to include services by email. Unrepresented persons can now submit requests for information to: [email protected] The Navigators will make every effort to respond to requests for information pertaining to cases in the Second Circuit (Lanaʻi, Maui, Molokaʻi) within one business day, although it may sometimes take longer to obtain the information necessary to respond to requests for information.

Dedicated to helping victims of domestic abuse by providing direct legal services to clients, legal information, case management and support services, community education, and advocacy for system reform and other specialized services such as our Teen Alert program. Accepts volunteers to assist clients in areas such as individual outreach, safety issues, legal issues, advocacy, manning of legal help line, and clerical and public education.

Provides services to immigrants with low-income to enable them to stabilize their immigration status in the country. The program assists applicants for US Citizenship, relative petition change of status and other family immigration petitions with the US Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Roots Reborn provides extensive legal support to the immigrant community in Maui through pro bono and low bono services and partnership with experienced immigration attorneys. This includes document replacement, legal representation for complex cases, and advocacy against policies that threaten immigrant rights. We also host Know Your Rights trainings, aimed at empowering our community through education of their constitutional rights, regardless of immigration status.

Provides services to immigrants with low-income to enable them to stabilize their immigration status in the country. The program assists applicants for US Citizenship, relative petition change of status and other family immigration petitions with the US Citizenship and Immigration Services.

Social Services: Supports immigrants, refugee and low-income residents, and human trafficking victims with skill building that lead to self-sufficiency. Provides immigrant and case management services, assistance with applying for health insurance, job training and placement, translations and interpretations to immigrants to ensure language access; refugees resettlement in meeting their key transitional needs, community and cultural orientation. Economic development: Provides workforce training, education and placement and job creation initiatives to immigrants, refugees and low-income residents of Hawaii towards economic self-sufficiency. Services are available to youth and adult, social enterprises with retail incubator and Culinary Kitchen Incubator. Assists immigrants, refugees and low-income residents of Hawaii develop small business and work towards economic self-sufficiency by providing business training, technical assistance, and loans. Also provides sustainable employment opportunities in foo
