Maui Strong

The Maui Strong program delivers bagged groceries and essential supplies to kupuna who were displaced or otherwise impacted by the Maui wildfires. Deliveries are made directly to their homes by volunteer drivers. For safety and privacy, drivers do not enter the kupuna’s homes. In addition to home deliveries, the program provides care navigation services to help connect kupuna with resources and support. We also offer transportation services for those who need transportation to medical appointments or essential errands.

(Hui Malama Ola Na Oiwi) We provide disease prevention and health promotion services through advocacy, accessibility, and education. We offer Case Management Services (such as home visits to conduct blood pressure checks, glucose checks, assistance with applications for medical insurance), and referrals to other health-related agencies. We also provide Health Education (Diabetes, Hypertension, Nutrition, and Tobacco Cessation), Traditional Healing Workshops and Classes, as well as one-to-one services by referral. Specialty Transportation provided to medical-related appointments (based on needs and availability)- for individuals restricted to a wheelchair or gurney.

Medicab

Medicab provides a door to door transportation service for people who need assistance or need to be escorted, usually to a doctor or medical facility. Drivers are trained how to communicate and assist elderly and disabled people. The driver does not lift, carry or push anyone. Drivers do sign out customers from the hospital and assist (guide by hand) people in and out of the vehicle COVID-19 patients are asked to sit at the back seat with their masks on. The driver drives with the windows down for full ventilation.

Provides island wide public transportation, including transportation for disabled individuals. The County of Hawai'i Mass Transit Agency also provides a Shared Ride Taxi Program in Hilo. The Hele-On bus system generally operates Monday through Saturday from 3:30 a.m. to 1:00 a.m., with limited service on Sundays and County observed holidays. When using the Hele-On Bus System, MTA suggests you wait at official bus stops and arrive at least 10 minutes before the scheduled time.
