Youth identified as requiring intensive mental health services may be enrolled with the Department of Health (DOH) Family Guidance Center (FGC) located in the school district of their home school. They are assigned an FGC Mental Health Care Coordinator (MHCC) at that time. The youth may, and often will, continue to receive School-Based Behavioral Health (SBBH) services and supports from the Department of Education (DOE) in conjunction with the intensive mental health services.

(Helping Hands Hawaii SNAP Outreach Program, HHH SNAP Outreach Program, Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program Outreach, SNAP Outreach, Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program Outreach, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Outreach) The federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides crucial food and nutritional support to qualifying low-income and needy households, and those making the transition from welfare to self-sufficiency. Helping Hands Hawaii’s SNAP outreach program provides help with: -filling out the SNAP application for the Department of Human Services (DHS) -providing interpretive assistance to Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals -facilitating submission of the application to the DHS offices -assisting with follow-up on application status as needed -helping SNAP benefit recipients to maintain those benefits -participating with DHS-contracted providers to conduct SNAP nutrition educational activities designed to ensure proper use of the SNAP benefit, including how to use the benefit and still be able to eat nutritious meals. Applicants may be eligible for SNAP if their household income meets Federal Income Guidelines. If the household appears to meet DHS eligibility requirements, they will be scheduled for an in-person interview with a SNAP outreach worker. Anyone who is interested in applying for SNAP benefits may call for more details. There will be a short pre-screening intake over the telephone (usually takes 10-15 minutes). Our staff will schedule an appointment with you and help you complete the form. Program is also offered in the community or at the applicant's home (by appointment) as needed. Contact the program to coordinate these off-site engagement. We can also submit your application to the State of Hawaii Department of Human Services (DHS) if you are unable to go to a processing center.

Keiki ages 11 years old - 17 years old will learn ocean safety from City lifeguards at no cost. Children will learn rescue boards, rescue tubes, and near-shore search and rescue techniques from some of the City and County of Honolulu lifeguards. Keiki will also get an introduction to cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and basic first aid. Classes are free and will be held during the fall break from school: October 9-13, 2023. Each session will run from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm Dates and locations are: -Monday, October 9, 2023 - Kualoa Beach Park -Tuesday, October 10, 2023 - “Sherwoods,” which is Hunananiho, or Waimanalo Bay Beach Park -Wednesday, October 11, 2023 - Pokai Bay Beach Park -Thursday, October 12, 2023 - Kaimana Beach -Friday, October 13, 2023 - Kailua Beach Park Enrollment is first come, first served basis. (VISTA, Volunteer in Service to America) Volunteers can serve as a VISTA, a VISTA leader, or a VISTA summer associate. AmeriCorps VISTA members build capacity in nonprofit organizations and public agencies. AmeriCorps VISTA members serve full time for one-year terms. Leaders work to expand and build the capacity of individual AmeriCorps VISTA members and their service sites. AmeriCorps VISTA Leaders have previously served a full term of full-time service with any AmeriCorps program or with Peace Corps, and have demonstrated exemplary skills and leadership in community service.
