Organized in 1979, the Hawaii Pacific Gerontological Society (HPGS) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of life of Hawaii’s older adults. We promote the understanding of the aging process, supportive services, and legislation that help people age with dignity and grace. It is the largest voluntary, multidisciplinary group in the State committed to dialogue and discussion, networking and information sharing on issues and policies affecting older adults in this geographical area. Currently, more than 400 older adults, caregivers, gerontology educators, medical and social service practitioners, health care providers, agency personnel and organizations from all sectors of the community make up the membership. Members can attend the meetings held three times a year.

Provides a national toll-free phone line to answer commonly asked questions on postal service, such as service hours, zip code and address information, and mailing rates. A caller attempting to reach a postal worker in Hawaii, or who asks a question that cannot be answered by Mainland operators, will be given a local number to call. The mission of NIMH is to transform the understanding and treatment of mental illnesses through basic and clinical research, paving the way for prevention, recovery, and cure. Provides resource material such as pamphlets, articles, and reports on psychology, child/adolescent mental disorder, depression, schizophrenia, mental health, psycho-pharmacology, etc. Pamphlets and articles contain research done by National Institute of Mental Health.

(Kumukahi Health + Wellness, Hawaii Island HIV/AIDS Foundation) Provides STD Testing and Treatment,HIV and Hepatitis C Testing, Sexual Health Counseling, PrEP Navigation Services, Client Services for people living with HIV and their families. Assists with daily living needs, financial aid for housing, food and medicine. Offers individual counseling, nursing, and social service case management. Accessing all aspect of medical care including vision, dental and drug assistance. Qualifying for public and private aid programs for housing and financial assistance, home health services, essential transportation, etc, Counseling and referral services including mental health, harm reduction and return to work programs, disability claims and a fully stocked food pantry on-site.

Become a foster family and offer a loving home to an abandoned or houseless dog. Fur-Angel Foundation provides basic supplies and medical care. You transport your foster to appointments and love him/her as your own! Fostering timeframe can vary from a minimum of 30 days to potentially a few months, depending on each individual circumstance.

Helps people who have a desire to stop drinking by sharing experiences with alcoholism and recovery. Meetings are currently in-person and on Zoom.

Provides methadone treatment and professional counseling services to assist opiate and painkiller medication addicted persons.

The Intake, Information and Referral department provides Information and Referral to the specific programs for those who are eligible.

Pre-treatment, residential, day treatment, intensive outpatient and outpatient substance abuse treatment as well as continuing care services for adults. Also provides a Family Education Program, topics include ways to intervene, recognizing the destructive nature of enabling, and learning about what options are available for family and friends of persons addicted to alcohol and/or drugs.Psychiatric Services, Case Management, Peer Mentoring, Offender Re-Entry.

Manages field offices on Hawaii (2) and Maui. Inspects and tests scales, gas pumps, taxi meters and packages for accurate measurement. Eliminates fraud, misrepresentation and carelessness in quantitative transactions. Investigates complaints. Enforces regulations relative to measuring devices, packages and labels.

Provides information and referral services to Hawaiians for health and human service resources and links clients with appropriate agency services.

Kokua Support Services provides Intensive Outpatient, Outpatient, and After Care Treatment for clients who require this level of care.

(Hale Ho'omalu - Food Pantry, Neighborhood Places of Kauai) Food pantry operating out of All Saints Episcopal Church on Thursday 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm. Households with children limited to request food twice a month. Households with no children limited to request food once a month.

(Womens Health) Full service women's clinic.

Operates a thrift store selling low cost clothing, furniture, household goods, toys and more. Proceeds benefit vocational training and job placement programs for people with barriers to employment. Donation drop off in the back of the store.

Provides customs information on foreign travel, registering articles and duty rates. Inspects baggage of individuals arriving from other countries and collects appropriate duty or tariffs.

(Moku Loa Group) Monitors activities and development on the Big Island for impacts on the environment, water/air quality, pollution, native species, and human health. Works to preserve and protect native species and natural resources, especially native rainforest, native bird and plant habitats, marine and costal areas. Presents monthly programs to inform and educate. Certified hike leaders provide outings for enjoyment and education. Sponsors service trips to maintain trails or protect unique resources.

A weeklong camp experience for children in Hawaii who have or have had cancer, ages 7 years old - 18 years old

Provides a comprehensive recreational program in the community. Facilities include a multi-purpose building and a field. There are three program periods throughout the year: fall, spring and summer. Activities are geared for all ages, including classes in arts and crafts, Hawaiiana, games and sports, music, seasonal activities and crafts, and excursions. A list of activities, registration dates, and program period information is published in the Midweek prior to registration.

PBS Hawaii is a non-profit television station broadcasting throughout the state of Hawaii. Offers volunteer opportunities in the membership department and front desk.

Helping Hands Hawaii is helping to collect donations to distribute to persons affected by the Kona Low on March 2026. We are currently accepting new/unopened donations of essential household and personal care items, including: -Hygiene items and feminine products -Diapers and pull-ups (all sizes) and wipes -Phone chargers and portable battery banks -Laundry detergent and dish soap -Shoes and boots -Towels and bedding (including blankets) -Cookware, dishware, and utensils -Gift cards for flexible support At this time, larger furniture items are not needed, as many affected areas are still in the cleanup phase following the storm. Partner With Us as a Collection Site Community businesses and organizations can play a direct role in Kona low recovery efforts by serving as a donation collection site.
