Makaha Community Center is accepting volunteers to help year round and in the post disaster period. Volunteers help with the collection and distribution of food, clothing, furniture, appliances, small appliances, cleaning supplies, etc. Times vary depending on volunteer hours. Three or four volunteers needed per day.

Our Child Protection Center (CPC) is the state leader in identifying, treating and helping children and families recover from child abuse. Founded in 1969 in collaboration with the State of Hawaii, the CPC has been helping Hawaii’s children for over 45 years. Disability and Communication Access Board reviews and assesses the problems, needs, services and resources in the State of Hawaii including, but not limited to, employment, education, social services, civil rights, public facilities, housing, vocational training, rehabilitation and recreation. The board publishes educational materials, sponsors workshops and provides technical assistance to industries/agencies, conducts research studies, advises State and County agencies on issues related to persons with disabilities, and conducts testing of sign language interpreters and issues state credential based on test results. (Act 278) Kauai Economic Opportunity has been contracted to administer the Eviction Mediation Pilot Program. This two-year pilot program requires early and free mediation between landlords and tenants before eviction for nonpayment of rent. The program runs February 5, 2026 - February 4, 2028. Tenants have 10 calendar days to respond to an eviction notice. If a tenant requests mediation in 10 day notice period, then the landlord must participate before filing for eviction. Youth identified as requiring intensive mental health services may be enrolled with the Department of Health (DOH) Family Guidance Center (FGC) located in the school district of their home school.
