The Hawaii “Lemon Law” helps consumers who buy or lease new motor vehicles and have repeated problems in getting their vehicles repaired under the manufacturer’s warranty. Provides basic information regarding business entities, professional and vocational license status, and complaints history on licensed professionals and merchants/businesses. Kauai Economic Opportunity - Eviction Mediation Pilot Program

(Act 278) Kauai Economic Opportunity has been contracted to administer the Eviction Mediation Pilot Program. This two-year pilot program requires early and free mediation between landlords and tenants before eviction for nonpayment of rent. The program runs February 5, 2026 - February 4, 2028. Tenants have 10 calendar days to respond to an eviction notice. If a tenant requests mediation in 10 day notice period, then the landlord must participate before filing for eviction. Mediation sessions are online via Zoom or in person, per request. For landlords, visit the website for more information and to submit a Landlord Intake Form to start the process. (Food Pantry) Dynamic Compassion in Action distributes food boxes to persons in need and persons with low-income. Clothing and household goods are distributed at the same site and during same food pantry hours. Volunteers are accepted, but please call first. We accept donations of clean and gently used small household items and clothing. The food distribution is normally a drive through. For persons who walk in please bring a bag, box or wagon. This is an Ohana Produce Plus Distribution and Senior Food Box Program, Commodity Supplemental Food Program (CSFP), a one a month, federal program helping low-income kupuna.

Provides island wide public transportation, including transportation for disabled individuals. The County of Hawai'i Mass Transit Agency also provides a Shared Ride Taxi Program in Hilo. The Hele-On bus system generally operates Monday through Saturday from 3:30 a.m. to 1:00 a.m., with limited service on Sundays and County observed holidays. When using the Hele-On Bus System, MTA suggests you wait at official bus stops and arrive at least 10 minutes before the scheduled time.
