CancerCare provides limited financial assistance to people affected by cancer. As a nonprofit organization, funding depends on the sources of support we receive at any given time. If we do not currently have funding to assist you, our professional oncology social workers will always work to refer you to other financial assistance resources. Please check our website periodically for funding updates. Please note: CancerCare’s financial assistance does not cover basic living expenses such as rent, mortgages, utility payments, or food.

(Puuhonua Prison Program - Pre/Post-Release Assistance to Oahu Offenders, Pu'uhonua Prison Program - Pre/Post-Release Assistance to Oahu Offenders) Puuhonua Prison Program helps incarcerated men and women navigate through the challenges of re-entering society, which includes avoiding homelessness, becoming rehabilitated, securing employment, and avoiding recidivism. Program participants receive help obtaining MedQUEST health insurance, SNAP/financial assistance, Goodwill clothing vouchers, bus passes, and referrals to shelter/housing resources and prospective employers. Puuhonua staff meet with offenders on-site at Oahu’s correctional facilities and also provide support post-release. (Women Infants and Children Nutrition Program) The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), is a federally funded program which provides Hawaii residents with nourishing supplemental foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and health and social service referrals. The participants of WIC are either pregnant, breastfeeding, or postpartum women, and infants and children under age five who meet income guidelines and have a medical or nutritional risk. Nutrition and Health Education: WIC will answer your questions about what to eat for a healthy pregnancy and help you plan family meals and snacks. Helps people who are displaced by actions of the City & County of Honolulu. Provides financial benefits, advisory services, and assistance for relocation of eligible households or businesses who are displaced.

Hep Free Hawai'i (HFH) is a coalition of local, national, and global partners dedicated to increasing awareness of and access to viral hepatitis and harm reduction services throughout the state of Hawaii. Born out of a partnership between the Hawaii Department of Health, the CHOW Project (now the Hawai'i Health & Harm Reduction Center), and other community agencies, Hep Free Hawai'i has been successful by connecting with communities across the islands to make Hawai'i truly “Hep Free.” Use the form on the website.

Roots Reborn provides extensive legal support to the immigrant community in Maui through pro bono and low bono services and partnership with experienced immigration attorneys. This includes document replacement, legal representation for complex cases, and advocacy against policies that threaten immigrant rights. We also host Know Your Rights trainings, aimed at empowering our community through education of their constitutional rights, regardless of immigration status.

(Hawaii Relief Program) Catholic Charities Hawaii has been contracted to administer the Hawaii Relief Program. Eligible applicants may receive up to four months of financial assistance, including: -Up to 4 months of rent or mortgage (up to $6,000 per month) -One time security deposit (actual housing deposit amount up to the maximum of $6,000) -Up to 4 months of utility assistance ($2,000 per month per utility source) -One time Utility deposit (up to $3,000 per utility source). Utility payments may include electricity, gas, or water expense, or a combination of these utility sources. Water expense may include sewer service fees. Payments are made directly to landlords, mortgage lenders, or utility providers. Administers a full-time, year-long volunteer program for men and women 18 years of age and older from all backgrounds, who commit themselves to increasing the capability of low income people to improve the conditions of their own lives. They share their skills and experience in fields such as substance abuse, literacy, food distribution, shelter for the homeless, and family violence. Sister program to the Peace Corps.
