(Ohana Connections Program) The core beliefs of the program are: all children entering foster care have the right to know and connect with their family, a right to learn about their family history, a right to maintain their family relationships, and a right to belong to a family, community, and place. Like all children, they deserve to feel stable, secure, and loved. The ‘Ohana Connections Program, working in conjunction with the ‘Ohana Finding Program, finds and engages the foster youth’s family members and other kinship family, and then helps nurture and support those renewed family connections. The time it takes for `Ohana Connections to be completed varies in length for each family, but all efforts work toward the goal of the program: to help families reweave their family cloth so every foster child has relationships that can last for a lifetime. (TANF, TAONF) The federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program provides temporary cash assistance to eligible families. The monthly cash assistance given to families may be used to pay for food, clothing, housing and utility expenses, and other daily needs. Eligible families include at least one specified relative adult and a minor dependent child who resides in the same home. In addition, family members must be US citizens. The State of Hawaii Temporary Assistance for Other Needy Families (TAONF) Program provides the same benefits and services to Hawaii’s vulnerable families with children as the TANF program. The TAONF program eligibility includes mixed citizens and non-citizens, and single- and two-parent households. Operates a museum dedicated to preserving and perpetuating the maritime history of Hawaii. A self-guided audio tour of over 40 exhibits is available in English, Japanese, and Korean. Displays one of only two humpback whale skeletons in the world, the Falls of Clyde, (the only surviving four-masted full-rigged ship and float in the world, and a National Historic Landmark), and the Polynesian voyaging canoe Hokule'a. (Ready To Learn Program, RTL, R2L Program, Ready 2 Learn Program) Ready to Learn (RTL) is a statewide initiative that provides students in need from kindergarten through high school with a backpack filled with new pencils, pens, notebooks and other school supplies with an intended outcome of school readiness. Assistance is provided year round, but the primary period is the summer before each new school year. Application period for school supplies is from March-May, and the distribution of school supplies is in July. If you miss the application period, call the Community Clearinghouse at the number listed at the end of July to see if there are any school supplies left after the primary distribution is done.

Family Support Hawai'i provides a comprehensive array of supportive services for prenatal women, infants and toddlers, including those with disabilities, preschool-aged children. Offices are located in Kona and Waimea, with child care centers in Kealakehe High School and Greenwell Child Development Center in Kealakekua. The Maui Dance Council (MDC) was founded in 1978 and holds the mission to: Enliven the community and the classroom by inspiring, cultivating and supporting the artist in everyone. MDC cultivates the performing and creative arts in Maui County through: the Chance To Dance public school movement arts education program, professional development training for classroom teachers, community classes and Master workshops, and by advocating for the arts locally and nationally. Chance To Dance is a Standards based arts education program designed to stimulate the students’ imagination and original thinking through dance and music. By integrating dance and music with classroom curriculum, Chance To Dance helps children develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills while self-expression and creativity are encouraged and fostered at a critical age.

The Hawaii Public Housing Authority (HPHA) is opening applications for the waitlist on Monday, April 20, 2026 8:00 am until Monday, April 27, 2026 4:00 pm. The HPHA will accept 300 applications. -Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Waiting List. This waiting list serves the HPHA’s Housing Choice Voucher program on the island of Oahu. The HPHA is accepting applications for all voucher unit sizes. The HPHA will accept 1000 applications. The HPHA has adopted a lottery selection policy. After a waiting list closes, the HPHA will place applicants on the list in a randomized order. Applications will be active for 18 months from the date of placement on a waiting list and then expire. (Food Pantry Plus) This program provides emergency food and diaper assistance for the community. Hours of operation are subject to change without notice. Please call to confirm operation hours. Parents are required to bring a picture ID and each child's birth certificate (one time verification). Families are allowed to receive diapers once a month, per child, ages from infant to 3 years old. Please call to confirm operation hours and the availability of diapers.

Noise Section: Administers departmental rules on community and vehicle noise control. Investigates complaints of noise. Processes community noise permits and conducts inspections of permit sites. Conducts special surveys of noise, such as monitoring of potential noise impacts on school classrooms. Reviews and comments on environmental impact statements, zone change requests and project reviews to address noise concerns. Radiation Section: Controls and minimizes ionizing radiation exposure to the public. Licenses x-ray technicians and inspects facilities with x-ray producing devices. Reviews radiation shielding plans for new medical and dental facilities. Collects data concerning lead poisoning, radioactive fallout in air, drinking water, and milk. Comprised of seven professionals who donate their time to the world class international marathon. Department of Parks and Recreation sponsors a 9-month training clinic, with various running groups, that culminates in the marathon run.
