Prevents and protects persons and property against crime. Enforces county ordinances and state laws. Investigates missing persons, juvenile offenses and criminal activity. Coordinates traffic safety. Registers and issues firearm permits. Administers and promotes community education and prevention programs such as DARE, Law and Justice Awareness, Crimestoppers, Neighborhood Watch. Responds to after-hour child welfare (abuse) calls.

(KHS) Until February 2024, a Grant-in-Aid program from the State of Hawaii keeps the cost of the spay and neuter services to $35 per animal and includes a microchip if the animal needs one. Surgery must be paid for in advance and is Non-Refundable. Funding assistance for qualified individuals may be available through our Spay Neuter Assistance Program (SNAP). Download the form from the website and email completed form. Cats must be at least two pounds, two months, and in good health. Dogs must be at least three months old. Please see your regular vet prior to scheduling surgery if you have any health concerns. Kauai Humane Society reserves the right to deny surgery to any animal. Dogs must arrive on a leash. Cats must arrive in an enclosed carrier. Small animals must arrive in an enclosed carrier.

Provides a national toll-free phone line to answer commonly asked questions on postal service, such as service hours, zip code and address information, and mailing rates. A caller attempting to reach a postal worker in Hawaii, or who asks a question that cannot be answered by Mainland operators, will be given a local number to call. Also provides U.S. Passports and voter ballot forms also available at several Post Office locations.

(Ola I Ka Hana Youth Program - Kona) Program for low-income at at-risk youth who are in or out of school. Help with building skills to obtain a High School Equivalency or GED, exploring post-secondary education, and employment exploration.

(FFT, Functional Family Therapy) This evidence-based program works with at-risk youth and their families. Prevention and intervention services are family focused and emphasize the development of family members’ inner strengths and allows for greater self-sufficiency. Services are provided at in-home and community-based locations. This is a 3-6 month family therapy treatment system provided in a home/office setting for youth ages 11 years old -18 years old experiencing a wide range of externalizing behavior disorders (e.g. conduct, violence, drug abuse) along with family problems (e.g. family conflict, communication) and often with additional emotional problems (e.g. anxiety and depression). At least one adult/parental figure must be willing to assume long-term parenting role and participate with service providers for the duration of treatment.

(TANF, TAONF) The federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program provides temporary cash assistance to eligible families. The monthly cash assistance given to families may be used to pay for food, clothing, housing and utility expenses, and other daily needs. Eligible families include at least one specified relative adult and a minor dependent child who resides in the same home. In addition, family members must be US citizens. The State of Hawaii Temporary Assistance for Other Needy Families (TAONF) Program provides the same benefits and services to Hawaii’s vulnerable families with children as the TANF program. The TAONF program eligibility includes mixed citizens and non-citizens, and single- and two-parent households. (Hawaii Homeownership Center - Honolulu Office) The Hawaii HomeOwnership Center's (HHOC) lifetime membership prepares buyers for the home purchase through classes and individual coaching. Classes address the general concepts about preparing for homeownership and the buying process; individual coaching provides support to identify buyer resources and create an action plan to become mortgage ready. Support after our members become homeowners is available through workshops and confidential meetings.

Lanai Kinaole provides home health services like specialty wound care, administration and management of medication(s) in the client’s home environment, including but not limited to intravenous (IV) medications administration, lab/blood collection, health monitoring, support with basic activities and functions referred to as Activities of Daily Living (ADL) and Instrumental Activities of Daily Living (IADL).

(Salt Lake Park, Salt Lake Gym) Provides a comprehensive recreational program in the community. Facilities include a multi-purpose building and a field. There are three program periods throughout the year: Fall, spring and summer. Activities are geared for all ages, including classes in arts and crafts, games and sports, seasonal activities and crafts, and excursions. A list of activities, registration dates, and program period information is published in the Midweek prior to registration.
