Hawai‘i Council for the Humanities seeks to use the public humanities to nurture the joy of learning, and inspire community and civic engagement. We aim to bring the humanities to hard-to-reach and nontraditional audiences across the state. Our goal is to improve the quality of life in Hawai‘i through public programs that apply the humanities to everyday lives to help strengthen communities and encourage civic dialogue. We provide grants in support of public humanities projects that: 1. Use humanities areas of study (philosophy, history, literary studies, etc.) to further community understanding of local, national, and world history, diverse cultural traditions and ethical issues (humanities public program grants). 2. Develops new (research grants) or further public access to (preservation and publication grants) humanities resources. Operates a comprehensive treatment program for chemically dependent adult men and women. Length of stay varies, based upon the severity of addiction and response to treatment. Includes individual, group, family counseling, and psycho-educational skill building seminars. Family participation is strongly encouraged. Operates an after-care program for former clients.

(Hawaii Academy of Performing Arts) An inclusive and innovative community arts space in Honolulu that hosts community arts events, cultural workshops, gallery shows featuring local artists, creative classes, First Friday Honolulu, auditions and art submission contests. "Arts" is acronym for Art Retail Theater Space. We provide an inclusive experience of the arts to youths and adults. HNL Tool Library’s mission is to increase the resource wealth of our local community by providing a platform for sharing, education, and skill development. We provide a membership based community tool lending program for a monthly fee, which provides access to tools that might be unaffordable otherwise. You can borrow as many tools as you need to help you get the job done. You can borrow a tool for one week, and can renew tools for a second week if no one else reserves them. We also provide blades and bits, basic used consumables are free to borrow. New and specialty items are available for a small fee.

Salvation Army Hawaii has a 50 beds (cots) overnight shelter for adults only. Dinner is provided. Check in time Monday-Sunday 4:00 pm on a first come, first served basis. (Women Infants and Children Nutrition Program) The Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children (WIC), is a federally funded program which provides Hawaii residents with nourishing supplemental foods, nutrition education, breastfeeding promotion and health and social service referrals. The participants of WIC are either pregnant, breastfeeding, or postpartum women, and infants and children under age five who meet income guidelines and have a medical or nutritional risk. Nutrition and Health Education: WIC will answer your questions about what to eat for a healthy pregnancy and help you plan family meals and snacks. Education and support for moms who breastfeed: WIC has specially trained staff to answer your breastfeeding questions. Ask for more information about our breast pump loan program. Serves current and former foster youth in Hawai‘i who are transitioning out of the foster care system, into adulthood. The program provides a group process for youth to celebrate their emancipation from foster care and to assist them in planning for their independence. Youth Circles build upon the philosophy and skills enriched through years of engaging families in ‘Ohana Conferences. Culturally sensitive, youth centered, and strengths based, Youth Circles bring together family and community support to increase social capital and develop a network of support from individualized, outcome-driven Transition Plans for the future. The Lyon Arboretum is a 193.5 acre botanical garden operated by the University of Hawaii. Offers tours, classes and workshops. The Arboretum's Micropropagation Lab and Seed Storage Lab both work to save Hawaii's rare and endangered plants. The Arboretum's Ethnobotanical and Hawaiian gardens are amongst the state's largest collection of cultural and native plants and help to maintain the cultural and natural heritage of Hawaii. Volunteers are needed for public tours, school tours, garden maintenance, trail maintenance, in the labs and visitor's center.

Catholic Charities Hawaii operates a residential program for adult pregnant women who are without resources, such as a safe, secure place to live, and emotional support from family or others. Mary Jane Program - Residential Services provides residential, educational, counseling, advocacy and other supportive services to pregnant women facing an unplanned, crisis pregnancy. Specifically, the program provides expectant mothers with education on child birth, infant care, and life skills. This program provides women with a healthy and safe place to live while they develop skills needed to increase their level of independence and self-sufficiency. Women may enter the program at any point of their pregnancy and when parenting, may remain in the program up to four months after infant is born; if infant is placed for adoption, the mother may remain for up to six weeks. Follow up services are offered after residents complete the program.
