Works to improve and maintain individual and community health. Addresses the following key areas: healthy community development (coalition development, community health organization, community strategic planning, facilitation, assisting grant writing, needs assessment, evaluation methodology in community health), risk reduction (includes tobacco prevention/education, physical activity promotion, chronic dieases, and injury prevention and control). Conducts community and professional education and training in public health education practices, methodology, and principles. Provides consultation and technical assistance in public health education. Provides specialized training in child passenger safety (certified technician and instructor).

Provides correctional care and custody of adult law offenders committed by the Courts to serve sentences, and arrested persons who cannot post bail.

Provides care coordination and contracts out to Department of Health awarded private providers, community-based, child-focused and family-centered comprehensive behavioral health care. Serves children, adolescents and their families who may suffer from a variety of emotional, behavioral or social adjustment problems. Provides evaluation, treatment planning, direct treatment and case management through contract providers. Provides consultation to Department of Education personnel and private agencies.

Provides special education services based on individual need and as agreed upon in the student Individualized Educational Program (IEP).

Goodwill Industries of Hawaii provides a free donation pick up in select Oahu communities: East Honolulu, Ewa Beach, Kapolei, and Manoa zip codes. At this time we are not servicing condos and apartments. Please feel free to drop your donations off at a drop off location.

Makaha Community Center is accepting volunteers to help year round and in the post disaster period. Volunteers help with the collection and distribution of food, clothing, furniture, appliances, small appliances, cleaning supplies, etc. Times vary depending on volunteer hours. Three or four volunteers needed per day.

Provides services to individuals with disabilities who are seeking employment. Provides counseling and guidance, physical and mental restoration, interpreter and reader services, technological aids, licenses and rehabilitation technology.

(VLA) The VLA project focuses on disabled and elderly veterans and family members who are residents of the state of Hawaii and who want assistance with filing benefits claims with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Also offers referrals to volunteer attorneys through VLSH's pro bono program for legal advice and direct services for: Family Law, Tenant Rights, Collections and Bankruptcy, Estate Planning/Probate, Re-Employment and Community Service Program (Oahu only).

Provides care coordination to target populations. Participates with communities to problem-solve health issues. Provides education in women and child health, chronic diseases, etc. Facilitates access to health care. Conducts screening tests and source/contact investigations on tuberculosis (TB) cases. Provides health services in public schools, consultation services to private schools, day care, and residential care homes.

The FCC aims to make telephone service available and accessible to all consumers. We offer information to aid in common consumer questions and services, including eliminating unwanted telephone communications; changing phone services; number portability; understanding consumer phone bills; and more.

Helps people who have a desire to quit drinking by sharing experiences with alcoholism and recovery.

(Transitional Housing) Housing Solutions provides transitional housing and housing for persons with low income.

(Community Services) Church of Seventh-Day Adventist distributes food to the needy. Some toiletries (soap, tooth brushes, tooth paste, diapers, and items that are donated ) a provided when they are available. Church of Seventh-Day Adventist accepts donated personal grooming supplies.

Operation Hero is an onsite after-school program, which focuses on character development and skill building within military children who have been identified by school personnel and parents exhibiting low self esteem, or difficulty adjusting both academically and socially in the school environment. Curriculum is designed to help children handle the challenges of military life, provide tools to help them succeed in school, and help develop a positive self-image while improving social and communication skills.

Regulates the manufacture, importation, sale and consumption of intoxicating liquors. Oversees liquor license applications. Hears and determines all complaints regarding violations of the liquor control laws of the state, or complaints regarding violations of rules and regulations established by the Liquor Commission. Imposes fines or punishment as may be provided by law. Adopts rules and regulations which have the effect of laws in the county. Enforces the provisions of the liquor laws. Grants, renews or refuses applications for liquor licenses. After an establishment has a liquor license, Commission investigators make periodic checks at the establishment. Provides a comprehensive recreational program in the community. There are three program periods throughout the year: Fall, spring and summer. Activities are geared for all ages, including classes in arts and crafts, Hawaiiana, games and sports, music, seasonal activities and crafts, and excursions. A list of activities, registration dates, and program period information is published in the Midweek prior to registration.

Hawaii Rx Card is a FREE prescription assistance program that is available to all citizens of Hawaii. The program was launched to help the uninsured, but it can also be used to discount drugs not covered by health insurance. There are no applications, fees, resrtictions, or eligibility requirements. The Hawaii Rx Card is accepted at all chain pharmacies. No personal information is required to get the card; no personal information is collected on processed prescriptions.
