The Friends' mission is to generate community support for cancer research and education to prevent and reduce cancer-related deaths as well as improve the quality of life of those diagnosed with cancer. The Friends organization was established to support the Cancer Center in their quest to prevent and find cures for cancer in Hawaii. This includes the Center’s education and outreach programs for those battling cancer, and family and friends who care or are caregivers. State of Hawaii Department of Education provides free or reduced prices for meals to school children unable to pay because of financial need. Others pay for daily lunches. Effective for the school year 2025-2026, students who qualify for reduced-price meals will receive one breakfast and one lunch daily at no charge, in accordance with Act 139, Session Laws of Hawaii 2025. While these students will still be categorized as reduced-price eligible under federal guidelines, their meals will be scanned as “Reduced – No Charge.” If a student would like to purchase a second meal or a la carte items such as milk, funds will need to be deposited into their account. For students in a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school, the CEP program allows a school district, a group of schools or a single school to serve free meals to all students even if they do not qualify for free or reduced-priced lunch. Developing Options to Violence (DOV) offers a full spectrum of services to women, men, adolescents, and children in the intervention and prevention of domestic violence. Professional counselors on call to help youth who are in psychiatric crisis or to supplement the efforts of their caregivers. Counselors can refer clients to specialized, short-term, out-of-home placement when needed. The following services are available to families experience domestic violence: Adult Programs

• Domestic violence interventions services for individuals who use physical, emotional, psychological and/ or sexual abuse in intimate relationships.

Adolescent Program: To assist adolescents in understanding their behavior and how to make appropriate changes. (West Hawaii Processing Center - Ka'u) The federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides crucial food and nutritional support to qualifying low-income and needy households, and those making the transition from welfare to self-sufficiency.
