Volunteer Legal Services Hawaii (VLSH) is the only organization in the state whose sole mission is to serve people in Hawaii with low to moderate income community through volunteer attorneys. Volunteer Legal’s pool of pro bono attorneys provide legal services in a wide range of civil matters, including divorces, paternities, custodies, child support, guardianships, adoptions, powers of attorney, wills, healthcare directives, landlord-tenant cases, collections, and Chapter 7 bankruptcies. Neighborhood Advice and Counsel clinics are being held in-person and via telephone. Clients are responsible for all legal deadlines associated with their case. We experience a high volume of calls. Please leave a brief message with your name, number, and brief description of your legal issue. Your call will be returned in the order it was received, generally within 48 to 72 hours.

Annual Internet Kokua Program re-certification form must be completed, signed, and mailed back with proof of eligibility before the renewal deadline.

(SNAP Employment and Training Program) Provides skills training, job readiness training, job placement, education/training support, and case management services.

(Ho'omana Hou School) Hoomana Hou School is a private school includes grades 9-12 for boys and girls.

Provides comprehensive services to persons who are suffering from a serious mental illness or persons in acute mental health crisis. Includes psychiatric evaluation and treatment, counseling and psychotherapy, case management, outreach, crisis intervention, and psychosocial rehabilitation.

Provides individual and family support, which promotes successful community living in the lifestyle of choice and which respects personal preferences, appreciates individual differences and preserves privacy and dignity to people with developmental disabilities, or acquired disabilities due to aging or head injury. Supports may include day service, personal assistance, habilitation, respite, skilled nursing or medically fragile case management.

(CARE Program) Provides comprehensive, coordinated and compassionate forensic health services to children who are victims and suspected victims of abuse and neglect.

Youth Services groups are offered in both East and West Hawaii to both boys and girls ages 12-17 who are deemed perpetrators of harm. The focus of this group is to offer tools for reducing impulsive behaviors, improving self esteem and increasing the level of social competence as well as addressing the dynamics of adolescent victimization. The Youth Service groups are 20 weeks long and group is once per week; however, times and days of group may vary by location.

Fosters, promotes, maintains and encourages the historical, social, commercial and cultural vitality of Lahaina. Welcomes calls, questions, concerns about any aspect of LahainaTown. Coordinates and produces major annual events. Maintains a visitor center at old Lahaina courthouse. Distributes free information, maps and brochures.

(IHI) Mental health treatment and individual skills training provided with young people living in the community who require additional services to achieve healthy interdependence. Services typically provided up to five months.

Enforces laws related to parking, including parking meters. Issue citations for violations. Accepts reports on broken parking meters.

Administers the agricultural and aquaculture loan programs. Promotes diversified agriculture.

Provides a comprehensive recreational program in the community. There are three program periods throughout the year: Fall, spring and summer. Activities are geared for all ages, including classes in arts and crafts, Hawaiiana, games and sports, music, seasonal activities and crafts, and excursions. A list of activities, registration dates, and program period information is published in the Midweek prior to registration. Also accepts birds that the public drops off for West Nile testing.

Protects and plants trees. Directs people on who to contact to report trees being removed from public property (not private property). Help to maintain landscaping in certain public areas. Concerned with all areas of beautification and preservation of parks and open spaces. We assist and support our branches across the state with environmental issues in their own communities. We are also concerned with illegal billboard and sign control as well as issues of livability and sustainability statewide.

Maintains information resources, i.e. books, magazines, musical recordings, video and audio tapes, State and County government documents and Hawaiiana materials. Provides fax service to send messages to State legislators. Provides access to wi-fi and telephone reference service. Voter registration forms also available.
