(Tutu and Me Traveling Preschool) Tutu and Me aims to identify, recruit, and service this undeserved segment of the Native Hawaiian population through an innovative traveling preschool program done in cooperation with churches and community organizations serving the Hawaiian and part-Hawaiian community. Tutu and Me aims to meet the developmental needs of these young children and to support the grandparents as well as parents and other primary caregivers who are raising them. Teaching teams, comprised of early education educators, travel to pre-selected communities where they set up, conduct, and facilitate the program. The curriculum is organized around learning themes and cultural aspects, as well as those values that continue to influence the lives of native Hawaiian children, are also incorporated into the curriculum.

Established in 1839 under the Kingdom of Hawaii, the Maui District Health Office is an extension of the State of Hawaii Department of Health for the County of Maui. (Domestic Violence Services for Families) When child abuse occurs in the home, violent behavior towards spouses and others is also often present. After a family is required to enter the child welfare system and is discovered to be experiencing other forms of domestic violence a care plan is developed for each family member. Services are then provided for both survivors (victims) and batterers (perpetrators) of violent behavior. Survivors create a safety plan and are offered various supportive services. Batterers are assessed and provided opportunities to learn alternative attitudes and behaviors. This program works with families involved in the child welfare system who are also experiencing domestic violence. Staff work with each family to assess for domestic violence and/or risk factors related to domestic violence. A care plan is developed for each family member. The services that are available for each family include: Domestic Violence Survivor Support and Pattern Changing Groups for Victims, Individual Counseling and Support for each family member, Trauma Focused – Cognitive Behavioral Therapy focusing on children, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Children’s Support Groups, and/or Adolescent Support Groups.

Hoa Aina O Makaha provides U-Pick events where guests are welcome to harvest from designated fields, assist farmers with planting, wash and weigh what you harvest, learn health benefits/recipes of whatever is in their baskets, and take starters home for their gardens. (PACT) The Building Industry Association of Hawaii (BIA Hawaii) offers a Pre-Apprenticeship Construction Training (PACT) program, funded through the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) in partnership with Work Hawaii. This six-week program is free for qualifying individuals and is intended to prepare participants for entry-level employment in the construction field. The curriculum includes: OSHA 30 Certification; CPR/First Aid/AED and Bloodborne Pathogens; Introduction to carpentry, HVAC, plumbing, and electrical; Green building fundamentals; Lead Renovation, Repair and Painting (RRP) Certification; Disaster site safety (15-hour OSHA); Job readiness support, including resume preparation and interview coaching; A guided tour of an active construction site. Participants also earn nationally recognized credentials, including the Home Builders Institute (HBI) Pre-Apprenticeship Certificate, and leave the program prepared for roles such as laborer, carpenter, plumber, or electrician assistant with pathways toward advancement in the industry.

Provides a comprehensive recreational program in the community. Facilities include a multi-purpose building and a field. There are three program periods throughout the year: Fall, spring and summer. Activities are geared for all ages, including classes in arts and crafts, Hawaiiana, games and sports, music, seasonal activities and crafts, and excursions. A list of activities, registration dates, and program period information is published in the Advertiser and Star-Bulletin the week before registration week.
