After initial screening, potential volunteers attend 36 hours of training held over the course of one month. Sessions focus on educating the group about death and dying, grief and bereavement. Through teaching active listening and doing extensive role-playing, volunteers learn about the various stages of the dying process.

(Helping Hands Hawaii SNAP Outreach Program, HHH SNAP Outreach Program, Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program Outreach, SNAP Outreach, Supplemental Nutritional Assistance Program Outreach, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) Outreach) The federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides crucial food and nutritional support to qualifying low-income and needy households, and those making the transition from welfare to self-sufficiency.
Helping Hands Hawaii’s SNAP outreach program provides help with:
-filling out the SNAP application for the Department of Human Services (DHS)
-providing interpretive assistance to Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals
-facilitating submission of the application to the DHS offices
-assisting with follow-up on application status as needed
-helping SNAP benefit recipients to maintain those benefits
-participating with DHS-contracted providers to conduct SNAP nutrition educational activities designed to ensure proper use of the SNAP benefit, including how to use the benefit and still be able to eat nutritious meals.
Applicants may be eligible for SNAP if their household income meets Federal Income Guidelines.
If the household appears to meet DHS eligibility requirements, they will be scheduled for an in-person interview with a SNAP outreach worker.
Anyone who is interested in applying for SNAP benefits may call for more details. There will be a short pre-screening intake over the telephone (usually takes 10-15 minutes). Our staff will schedule an appointment with you and help you complete the form.
Program is also offered in the community or at the applicant's home (by appointment) as needed. Contact the program to coordinate these off-site engagement.
We can also submit your application to the State of Hawaii Department of Human Services (DHS) if you are unable to go to a processing center.

This is a 3-6 month family therapy treatment system provided in a home/office setting for youth ages 11 years old -18 years old experiencing a wide range of externalizing behavior disorders (e.g. conduct, violence, drug abuse) along with family problems (e.g. family conflict, communication) and often with additional emotional problems (e.g. anxiety and depression). At least one adult/parental figure must be willing to assume long-term parenting role and participate with service providers for the duration of treatment.

The National Safe Haven Alliance (NSHA) is a national non-profit organization that promotes safe alternatives for parents in crisis pregnancy situations in every state.
The 24 hour crisis help and text line provides support and direction for parents and providers regarding the Safe Haven law, including Safe Surrender locations, adoption resources and parenting support.
The National Safe Haven Alliance also can provide direct resources to assist and prevent infant abandonment.
The Crisis Hotline is staffed 24 Hours by social workers, nurses, and paramedics that have received comprehensive training and are able to support and assist parents and providers.
