(Ohana Connections Program) The core beliefs of the program are: all children entering foster care have the right to know and connect with their family, a right to learn about their family history, a right to maintain their family relationships, and a right to belong to a family, community, and place. Like all children, they deserve to feel stable, secure, and loved. The ‘Ohana Connections Program, working in conjunction with the ‘Ohana Finding Program, finds and engages the foster youth’s family members and other kinship family, and then helps nurture and support those renewed family connections. The time it takes for `Ohana Connections to be completed varies in length for each family, but all efforts work toward the goal of the program: to help families reweave their family cloth so every foster child has relationships that can last for a lifetime. State of Hawaii Department of Education provides free or reduced prices for meals to school children unable to pay because of financial need. Others pay for daily lunches. Effective for the school year 2025-2026, students who qualify for reduced-price meals will receive one breakfast and one lunch daily at no charge, in accordance with Act 139, Session Laws of Hawaii 2025. While these students will still be categorized as reduced-price eligible under federal guidelines, their meals will be scanned as “Reduced – No Charge.” If a student would like to purchase a second meal or a la carte items such as milk, funds will need to be deposited into their account. (West Hawaii Processing Center - Ka'u) The federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides crucial food and nutritional support to qualifying low-income and needy households, and those making the transition from welfare to self-sufficiency. The SNAP processing center provides public assistance, food stamps (SNAP) and financial assistance, to eligible individuals and families. They handle new applications and ongoing assistance. The US Department of the Treasury's Internal Revenue Service (IRS) website has information on federal taxes. You can visit the website to create an IRS account where you can check your refund status, view tax records, for payments and notifications. You can use the Refund tracker to view the status of your refund without making an IRS account. Your Social Security Number, tax year, your filing status, and the refund amount as shown on your tax return is required to use the Refund tracker. The website also contains information on tax forms and how to file your taxes. Your taxes may be filed for free via the IRS Free File or Free File Fillable Forms may be used. Information is also available on tax fraud and identity theft. Offers three specialized treatments for veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Here and Now group for current life issues concentrating on providing veterans with effective coping skills and management of PTSD symptomology. Also serves as preparation for possible future more intense treatment than that offered through outpatient services. PTSD and Addictions addresses the needs of veterans suffering from PTSD and Substance Abuse. Providing veterans with the abilities to identify risk factors, prevent relapse and practice effective coping skills. Residents are required to attend AA and/or NA meetings several times a week. War Trauma Focus is designed to provide appropriate circumstances for veterans to re-experience emotional impacts of trauma, understanding recovery, accepting responsibility and coping skills are the primary emphasis.

(McGruff Program, Take a bite out of Crime Program) Provides education, training, research, and coordination and monitoring of federal grants on the issues of crime prevention and system improvement to criminal justice agencies, the Legislature, and citizens to establish a safer and better informed community. Offers programs including the McGruff "Take a Bite Out of Crime" program, internet safety, and crime research and trend analysis. Coordinates and administers federal grants including the Edward Byrne Memorial Grant (criminal justice block grant for drugs and violent crime, available only to government agencies). (Mothers Milk) Hawaii Mothers' Milk, Inc. (HMMI) is a comprehensive breastfeeding resource center, for both families and health professionals in the State of Hawaii. HMMI provides services to new mothers statewide through our telephone warmline, individualized breastfeeding counseling, rentals and sales of hospital grade and/or home purchase breast pumps and supplies.
