The Hawaii Department of Human Services (DHS) continues to closely monitor the federal government shutdown and its potential impact on programs that provide essential food assistance to Hawaii families. If the federal shutdown continues into November, federal funding for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) program may be unavailable, which could delay or prevent the issuance of November benefits. DHS will share more information about the Hawaii Relief Program on October 29, 2025. (VLA) The VLA project focuses on disabled and elderly veterans and family members who are residents of the state of Hawaii and who want assistance with filing benefits claims with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Also offers referrals to volunteer attorneys through VLSH's pro bono program for legal advice and direct services for: Family Law, Tenant Rights, Collections and Bankruptcy, Estate Planning/Probate, Re-Employment and Community Service Program (Oahu only).

(Kauai Teen Court) Teen Court is a collaborative effort between the Kauai Police Department (KPD), Prosecutor, County of Kauai, Family Court Fifth Circuit, Hale 'Opio Kaua'i, Inc, and youth serving public and private sector agencies to provide a diversionary program from Family Court for first time misdemeanor or status offending youth between the ages of 10 and 18. Juveniles who have admitted guilt and are prepared to be sentenced by their peers will be given a hearing. Teen Court judges selected from a pool of practicing judges, attorneys, and trained teens serve as court officers. Sentences may include referral to mediation or anger management classes, substance abuse counseling, tutoring, or to a mentor. All youth completing sentencing serve on at least three juries.
