The Humane Society Hawaii Island (HIHS) provides shelter, food, licensing, adoption and euthanasia services for animals picked up by HIHS humane officers or brought in by private owners. Offers certificate for spaying/neuterig animals three times a year. Recruits and trains volunteers to care for the animals, work in the office and represent the Humane Society at community events. Provides temporary part-time employment and on-the-job training opportunities for Hawaii Island seniors 55 years of age or older who meet all program eligibility requirements. Services include job counseling/development, information and referral, and job placement in community service-oriented host agencies, which provide senior enrollees with current work experience, references, and new skills. Designed to assist the senior enrollees to make the transition from federally subsidized jobs back into the main workforce.

Habitat for Humanity Hawaii Island offers affordable homeownership and home repair opportunities in Hawaii County. General qualifications include a need for housing, willingness to partner, and ability to pay an affordable mortgage or repair loan which go toward future Habitat home builds and repairs. We fundraise for our programs through our ReStores where we provide a wide range of donated new and gently used items at budget-friendly prices.
