The Veterans Assistance unit is comprised of Veterans Service Representatives (VSRs) who deliver, with a sense of respect and compassion, those benefits that the law has made available to veterans, their dependents and survivors. VSRs are responsible for direct contact with the public on nearly all VA matters, including advice, counsel, assistance in the preparation of applications for VA benefits, and resolution of inquiries concerning these benefits, development of community resources, outreach to minority veterans, homeless veterans, women and Ex-POW veterans, various veteran groups, and providing transition services to military installations.

Services focus on health promotion, health education, health care services and research. We provide disease prevention and control services, health screening, health advocacy, outreach, traditional healing, fitness and nutrition programs, tobacco cessation, health insurance application assistance, cancer navigation, primary medical care, and dental care.

Special Needs Classroom Outreach Program is aimed at young people who are physically and mentally challenged. The objective is developing social, learning and motor skills through program activities and highlighted with a special camp out. The camp out is a very exciting time for students because they participate in activities that normal children participate in. The teachers and volunteers have viewed this activity as very positive. The youth are provided a means of achievement and recognition, personal development, self-help and self-esteem. KAMP Hawaii personnel have a proud working and friendly relationship with students, volunteers and teachers.

Volunteer Legal Services Hawaii (VLSH) is the only organization in the state whose sole mission is to serve people in Hawaii with low to moderate income community through volunteer attorneys. Volunteer Legal’s pool of pro bono attorneys provide legal services in a wide range of civil matters, including divorces, paternities, custodies, child support, guardianships, adoptions, powers of attorney, wills, healthcare directives, landlord-tenant cases, collections, and Chapter 7 bankruptcies. Neighborhood Advice and Counsel clinics are being held in-person and via telephone. Clients are responsible for all legal deadlines associated with their case. We experience a high volume of calls. Please leave a brief message with your name, number, and brief description of your legal issue. Your call will be returned in the order it was received, generally within 48 to 72 hours.

MISSION: The urgent mission of The Foundation Fighting Blindness is to drive the research that will provide preventions, treatments, and cures for people affected by retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration, Usher syndrome and the entire spectrum of retinal degenerative diseases. SERVICES: For a $25.00 annual membership fee, FFB offers information and referral services for affected individuals and their families as well as for doctors and eye care professionals. The Foundation also provides comprehensive information kits on retinitis pigmentosa, macular degeneration, and usher syndrome. Our newsletter, InFocus, and our e-newsletter, InFocus online, present articles on coping, research updates, and Foundation news. InFocus is published 3 times per year; InFocus online is sent approximately 3 times per year. Our national conference is usually held every year.

(H-HEAP, Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program - Energy Crisis Intervention - Leeward, LIHEAP ECI, ECI) Hawaii Home Energy Assistance Program (H-HEAP) Energy Crisis Intervention (ECI) is designed to help families keep their utilities (gas or electric) on, especially those households that are most vulnerable, such as the elderly, the disabled, and households with young children. H-HEAP primarily assists households by applying an energy assistance grant directly to the energy provider on behalf of the eligible household. Applications are accepted year-round. Credit amount varies by household. Call the Leeward District Service Center for more information.

Educates about agriculture, family/consumer life skills, family finances, foods/clothing, and leadership development. Advises on soil management, livestock, crops, and farm management. Conducts 4-H youth programs.

(Church on the Beach Mobile - Koa'e Makana Apartments) Kauai Bible Church helps Hawaii Foodbank Kauai with this branch for food and hygiene product distribution. Church on the Beach Mobile distributes clothes, toiletries, and personal/grooming supplies to the houseless or those in need.

Provides a variety of social, recreational and educational programs for all age groups, children to seniors that includes social recreational, physical activities, after school drop-in programs, performing arts, behavioral management, sports and educational program that includes positive youth development. Enforces laws, rules and regulations relating to the conservation and preservation of land and natural resources. Verifies leases, permits and licenses issued by the DLNR. Enforces laws relating firearms, ammunition and dangerous weapons. Controls and manages beaches with public access. Participates with search and rescue efforts locally.

Provides basic dental care for low income persons who are frail elderly or disabled who are Medicaid qualified (but not Medicare qualified).

FHLC (Family History Library Catalog): Computer-produced catalog describes all the books, films, pamphlets, maps, etc., available at the main library in Salt Lake City. 2. IGI (International Genealogical Index): A worldwide list of names and selected vital data of more than 150 million people. 3. Ancestral File: Is pedigree linked and can be grouped in families. 4. Social Security Death Index: Lists about 38 million deceased persons who had Social Security numbers, and whose deaths were reported to that administration. 5. US Military Index: Index of individuals in the United States military who died, or were declared dead, in Korea or Vietnam (1950-1975). 6. Personal Ancestor File software available for use on computers on library to make your own family records. 7. Hawaii delayed birth records index on computer.
