The purpose of the Family Self-Sufficiency (FSS) program is to enable eligible families to achieve economic independence and self-sufficiency. Kauai County Housing Agency's (KCHA) FSS program is the conduit between the client and the appropriate supportive services necessary to achieve independence. FSS case managers are assigned to FSS participants to make a proper assessment of strengths, needs and aspirations. The case manger will guide each client through a service plan which outlines short and long-term goals. Some of the services provided to families include: child care, transportation necessary to receive services, remedial education, job training and preparation, substance abuse treatment and counseling, training in homemaking and parenting skills, training in money management, training in household management; and any other services and resources appropriate to assist eligible families to achieve economic independence and self-sufficiency. Lunalilo Home is currently is licensed for 42 residents by the State of Hawaii Department of Health for Adult Residential Care Home (ARCH), Type II, and up to 20% of the beds for Expanded ARCH or EARCH, Type II. Residents of Lunalilo Home receive 24-hour supervised care and supportive services in an ohana (family) setting. Lunalilo Home is a private organization that is not funded by any state or federal programs. We do not directly bill Medicare or Medicaid for any of the services we provide; however, our residents may utilize Medicare and Medicaid as well as other health insurance for their medical needs. In recent years, Lunalilo Home has added elderly services including Adult Day Care, Respite Care, Meals-to-Go and Caregiver Support programs. In the coming years, Lunalilo Home plans to further enhance its services and facilities to increase its impact in the community and preserve the legacy of our kupuna and the Hawaiian people. A late fee of $250 will be assessed per 30 days outstanding.

Launched in January 2020, the Service Excellence Certificate of Achievement curriculum provides fundamental skills for employment in the hospitality industry and beyond. The training marries our unique philosophy for world class service rooted in the Hawaiian culture with world renowned hospitality education from Cornell University. The curriculum was exclusively developed in partnership with the School of Hotel Administration at the Cornell SJ Johnson College of Business, one of the leading hospitality administration programs in the world, for the DOE’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) program. Upon completion of the program’s 9 lessons, students receive a Service Excellence Certificate of Achievement from Cornell University and ClimbHI. The program served 683 students and teachers in its first year, and is currently available for DOE CTE students. Youth for Christ Hawaii is a dynamic, local youth organization that is committed to helping teens reach their ultimate potential physically, mentally, socially, and spiritually.
