Provides professional and public education, advocacy and public policy, referrals and resources on palliative and hospice care, and leadership for statewide palliative and end-of-life care initiatives. The "Let's Talk Story" Program will go to community groups, churches and temples and provide free training.

Services focus on health promotion, health education, health care services and research. We provide disease prevention and control services, health screening, health advocacy, outreach, traditional healing, fitness and nutrition programs, tobacco cessation, health insurance application assistance, cancer navigation, primary medical care, and dental care.

Prevents and suppresses outbreaks of vector-borne diseases and serious vector nuisances through inspections, surveillance, monitoring, enforcement, consultation and education in the control of harmful vermin such as insects that bite or are a public nuisance such as ants, sand flies, and other insects. Also gives public advice on small animals and insects causing a problem in or near a home or building such as mice, roaches, flies, gnats, mites, rats, and nesting birds. Offers information and advice to individuals experiencing pest problems. Accepts birds that the public drops off for West Nile testing. They no longer spray for mosquitos.

(Crime Stoppers) Provides law enforcement, criminal investigation and crime prevention. Investigates accidents and provides traffic control. Registers firearms. Accepts information on missing persons. HPD does not handle driver's licensing or motor vehicle registration, abandoned vehicles or safety inspections (these are provided by Department of Finance, Motor Vehicle & Licensing Division).

We distribute food to whomever comes to Stevenson Recreation Center located at Stevenson Middle School 1202 Prospect Street by the basketball court.

Conducts forestry research in Hawaii and Pacific Basin islands; topics include ecosystem restoration, species trials, agroforestry studies. Awards grants for urban and community forestry, forest stewardship of private lands, rural development, natural resources conservation education, etc. Makes cost-share payments and subgrants to non-profit groups and private landowners or lessees.

(Temporary Disability Insurance, TDI, Temporary Disability Compensation and Workers Comp) Enforces labor laws relating to workers compensation (wage replacement benefits, medical or hospital care for work-related illness or injury), temporary disability insurance (wage replacement benefits for non-work-related illness or injury), and prepaid health care (medical or hospital care for non-work-related illness or injury).

We provide clean and sober housing, bridge to success transitional housing, resource referrals, parenting classes, life skills classes, substance abuse relapse prevention, intensive outpatient substance abuse treatment, re-entry from incarceration, domestic violence education, employment services, case management, and advocacy. We help our clients develop positive life skills they need to become independent and productive members of our community. We do everything we can to break the generational cycle of hopelessness and abuse. WIN gives preference for admission of pregnant women in our housing and treatment program.

(ATV, Alternatives to Violence) Professional counselors on call to help youth who are in psychiatric crisis or to supplement the efforts of their caregivers. Counselors can refer clients to specialized, short-term, out-of-home placement when needed. Offers a full spectrum of services to women, men, and children in the intervention and prevention of domestic violence.

Youth identified as requiring intensive mental health services may be enrolled with the Department of Health (DOH) Family Guidance Center (FGC) located in the school district of their home school. They are assigned an FGC Mental Health Care Coordinator (MHCC) at that time. The youth may, and often will, continue to receive School-Based Behavioral Health (SBBH) services and supports from the Department of Education (DOE) in conjunction with the intensive mental health services.

Provides maintenance and repairs of City & County of Honolulu streets, storm drains, ditches, streams, and sidewalks. Provides litter containers at bus stops and pedestrian malls. Responsible for clearing City roadways and drainage ways of debris caused by rain, wind and other natural disasters. Picks up bulky items and dead animals in rural areas. Maintains striping and signs on City-Owned streets.

For youth who have run away or experienced a crisis. The program is geared to help youth work out their problems and whenever possible keep the family unit intact. Family counseling is an important part of their stay. Parental consent is necessary unless the youth is referred by Child Protective Services. The Emergency Shelter Services Program is geared to help youth work out their problems while keeping the family unit intact with the help of regular family counseling. The length of stay typically ranges from 1 to 30 days and are offered in two settings, Group Shelters and Kamala Homes. There is one shelter for boys and one shelter for girls.
