Volunteer Legal Services Hawaii (VLSH) is the only organization in the state whose sole mission is to serve people in Hawaii with low to moderate income community through volunteer attorneys. Volunteer Legal’s pool of pro bono attorneys provide legal services in a wide range of civil matters, including divorces, paternities, custodies, child support, guardianships, adoptions, powers of attorney, wills, healthcare directives, landlord-tenant cases, collections, and Chapter 7 bankruptcies. Neighborhood Advice and Counsel clinics are being held in-person and via telephone. Clients are responsible for all legal deadlines associated with their case. We experience a high volume of calls. Na Hoaloha volunteers provides round-trip transportation for older adults or people with a disability for needed medical appointments, procedures, grocery shopping, or medications retrievals. The Rent-to-Work Program (RTW) provides rental assistance and support services to persons experiencing homelessness who are willing to maintain employment or increase income through employment. The participant must develop and follow an individualized employment and training plan to increase income. Services include: Short-term rental subsidy for 12-24 months, housing placement assistance, tansition to affordable housing (if available), job placement/job training, and intensive case management.
