The Department of Human Services (DHS) has received reports of fraudulent transactions statewide, but the reports are largely concentrated on the island of Oahu in the urban Honolulu area. What should I do if I suspect a fraudulent transaction has occurred with my EBT card? -DHS encourages all Financial or SNAP clients to be proactive and check their EBT account for unusual transactions. -Please visit the DHS Processing Center (PC) nearest to you to report any fraudulent transaction and to request a replacement card. Fraudulent transactions have been reported to occur with online and out-of-state transactions. You may block these types of purchase when you are not traveling out of state or not shopping online. -Beware of Phishing schemes. State agencies and EBT processors will never call or text you to ask for your PIN or card number. Be cautious when you receive these requests and do not share your personal information. Residents of Maui who were affected by the August 8, 2023 wildfires and received an initial rental assistance from Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) may be eligible for continued rental assistance. To be eligible for continued rental assistance, you must have used your initial rental assistance as intended, and: -you must be unable to return to your pre-disaster residence because it is uninhabitable, cannot be accessed or is unavailable as a result of the wildfires -you cannot pay for housing without assistance -you are not receiving temporary housing help from any other source. -You also need to develop a long-term housing plan and be able to demonstrate progress toward one If you need continued rental assistance, you must complete an Application for Continued Temporary Housing Assistance. -Homeowners: If your FEMA-verified Real Property Loss exceeds the amount of the initial Rental Assistance awarded, the Application for Continued Temporary Housing Assistance will automatically be mailed to you after you have received the initial Rental Assistance award. -Homeowners: If the Real Property Loss does not exceed the amount of the initial Rental Assistance, you will need to call FEMA’s Helpline to request the application. -Renters: You will need to request the Continued Temporary Housing Assistance Request form by calling FEMA’s Helpline. The Rent-to-Work Program (RTW) provides rental assistance and support services to persons experiencing homelessness who are willing to maintain employment or increase income through employment. The participant must develop and follow an individualized employment and training plan to increase income. Services include: Short-term rental subsidy for 12-24 months, housing placement assistance, tansition to affordable housing (if available), job placement/job training, and intensive case management.
