The Salvation Army Lihue Corps provides a place and opportunity for religious expression by those who choose the Salvation Army. Provides character building programs for all ages. Assistance is provided to those who are in need of food and clothing. Provides hospital visits, care home visit, and shut-in visitation to the institutionalized. Mobile showers are available every Tuesday from 9:30 am - 1:00 pm. Back to school supplies program is available mid-July. Holiday programs available as well. (TANF, TAONF) The federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program provides temporary cash assistance to eligible families. The monthly cash assistance given to families may be used to pay for food, clothing, housing and utility expenses, and other daily needs. Eligible families include at least one specified relative adult and a minor dependent child who resides in the same home. In addition, family members must be US citizens. The State of Hawaii Temporary Assistance for Other Needy Families (TAONF) Program provides the same benefits and services to Hawaii’s vulnerable families with children as the TANF program. The TAONF program eligibility includes mixed citizens and non-citizens, and single- and two-parent households. Provides a national toll-free phone line to answer commonly asked questions on postal service, such as service hours, zip code and address information, and mailing rates. A caller attempting to reach a postal worker in Hawaii, or who asks a question that cannot be answered by Mainland operators, will be given a local number to call. Volunteer Legal Services Hawaii (VLSH) is the only organization in the state whose sole mission is to serve people in Hawaii with low to moderate income community through volunteer attorneys. Volunteer Legal’s pool of pro bono attorneys provide legal services in a wide range of civil matters, including divorces, paternities, custodies, child support, guardianships, adoptions, powers of attorney, wills, healthcare directives, landlord-tenant cases, collections, and Chapter 7 bankruptcies. Neighborhood Advice and Counsel clinics are being held in-person and via telephone. Clients are responsible for all legal deadlines associated with their case. We experience a high volume of calls. Offers rewards of up to $1000 to tipster who give information that leads to arrest or indictment of persons committing crimes or for the recovery of stolen property. All calls are confidential. The Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Kukui Center was designed and renovated to meet the need to provide an easily identified and specialized place where abused, vulnerable and disadvantaged children and their families can receive the help they need. Professional and volunteer help is available elsewhere throughout our community but in many different locations. Even when needed, the follow through on referrals can be poor as parents and young adults are often overwhelmed by the demands of their daily lives. Housing a variety of services together is more user friendly for children, youth and families and will help insure they can access the strong community support that is available.

Providing free training on child development, nutrition, health and safety issues. Providing information about resources available to providers, such as the USDA Child Care Food Program that assists in paying for meals served in daycare. (H-HEAP, Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program - Energy Crisis Intervention-Windward, LIHEAP ECI, ECI) Hawaii Home Energy Assistance Program (H-HEAP) Energy Crisis Intervention (ECI) is designed to help families keep their utilities (gas or electric) on, especially those households that are most vulnerable, such as the elderly, the disabled, and households with young children. H-HEAP primarily assists households by applying an energy assistance grant directly to the energy provider on behalf of the eligible household. Applications are accepted year-round. Provides a comprehensive recreational program in the community. Facilities include a multi-purpose building and a field. There are three program periods throughout the year: Fall, spring and summer. Activities are geared for all ages, including classes in arts and crafts, games and sports, seasonal activities and crafts, and excursions. Boys and Girls Clubs of Maui operates a drop-in service facility for youth ages 8 years old to 18 years old, if enrolled in high school. Programs and activities include: character and leadership; healthy lifestyles; sports, fitness, and recreation; education; and workforce development.
