(Domestic Abuse Shelters and Transitional Apartments - Oahu) Domestic Abuse Shelters provide a safe haven for those fleeing domestic violence. Program accepts abused partners and their children. A 24 hour hotline is available for referrals and resource information. The Domestic Abuse Shelters (DAS) offers up to 120 days of a safe haven, basic needs (food, clothing etc.), counseling and services for children. Program participants learn dynamics of domestic violence, develop safety plans, improve self-esteem and learn healthy parenting skills. Children develop safety plans and learn they’re not responsible for domestic violence. The shelters offer: -Domestic violence crisis hotline -Lodging and food -Crisis counseling -Individual counseling -Educational workshops -Support groups -Information, referral & advocacy -Children's program -Assistance with obtaining a TRO, Housing and financial aid -Volunteer program

(Our Lady of Kea'au Spiritual Retreat Center) This is a retreat center located along 58 acres of the Waianae Coast, available to nonprofits for community and business meetings, conferences, and celebrations. Guests have access to furnished cabins, an outdoor kitchen, dining facilities, tennis courts, a swimming pool and open fields. As an extension of service to the community, Our Lady of Kea`au also prepares and serves meals for the homeless in the Waianae area. It also maintains a Christian homeless tent community on the premises.

Increases public awareness of the measures that can be taken to protect homes, businesses and property from the threat of fire. Includes information on faulty wiring and other electrical hazards, kitchen fires, smoking risks, child-related fire safety, flammable materials storage, brush clearance, fire retardant building materials and ground cover and other similar topics. Provides fire education and code enforcement. Issues special fireworks and public firework display permit. Also issues tent permits, portable extinguishers and systems permits, flammable finish permits, public assembly permits, and tank permits. Fireworks permits may be obtained from all Satellite City Halls for these holidays: New Year’s, Chinese New Year, and Independence Day (Fourth of July). For fireworks permits other than on the holidays listed, go to the Honolulu Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau. Fireworks permits will not be issued at any fire station.

Prevents and suppresses outbreaks of vector-borne diseases and serious vector nuisances through inspections, surveillance, monitoring, enforcement, consultation and education in the control of harmful vermin such as insects that bite or are a public nuisance such as ants, sand flies, and other insects. Also gives public advice on small animals and insects causing a problem in or near a home or building such as mice, roaches, flies, gnats, mites, rats, and nesting birds. Offers information and advice to individuals experiencing pest problems. Accepts birds that the public drops off for West Nile testing. They no longer spray for mosquitos.
