Friends of the Library of Hawai'i (FLH) exists to promote and support the fifty public libraries that make up the Hawai'i State Public Library System. FLH promotes literacy, education, and library services. The organization supports librarians in continuing education opportunities and offers scholarships for graduate students at the University of Hawaii interested in a library career. FLH fundraises throughout the year through a number of book sales as well as a golf tournament. Volunteers are needed for events and for year-round sorting and pricing of books and media. Incorporating a community family center model, Hale Ho'omalu Neighborhood Place provides a healing and nurturing environment in which intervention services are interwoven with prevention activities. Services include information and referral, emergency food pantry, emergency clothes closet, parent skills classes, outreach activities to engage hard to reach families, individual and family counseling, and community activities, volunteer training, SNAP (Food Stamp) application assistance, and cultural awareness activities and more. Hale Ho'omalu is a family support center provided by Child and Family Service, serving Central to East Kauai.

Increases public awareness of the measures that can be taken to protect homes, businesses and property from the threat of fire. Includes information on faulty wiring and other electrical hazards, kitchen fires, smoking risks, child-related fire safety, flammable materials storage, brush clearance, fire retardant building materials and ground cover and other similar topics. Provides fire education and code enforcement. Issues special fireworks and public firework display permit. Also issues tent permits, portable extinguishers and systems permits, flammable finish permits, public assembly permits, and tank permits. Fireworks permits may be obtained from all Satellite City Halls for these holidays: New Year’s, Chinese New Year, and Independence Day (Fourth of July). For fireworks permits other than on the holidays listed, go to the Honolulu Fire Department Fire Prevention Bureau. Fireworks permits will not be issued at any fire station.
