If you don’t have health insurance through a job, Medicare, Medicaid, the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP), or another source that provides qualifying coverage, the Marketplace can help you get covered. Navigators help families and those in underserved communities gain access to health coverage options by helping them complete their Marketplace applications, access financial assistance through HealthCare.gov, and enroll in coverage through the Marketplace, Medicaid, or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). Provides a comprehensive recreational program in the community. Facilities include a multi-purpose building, a gymnasium, a swimming pool, and a field. There are three program periods throughout the year: fall, spring, and summer. Activities are geared for all ages, including classes in arts and crafts, Hawaiiana, games and sports, music and dance, seasonal activities and crafts, excursions and swimming. A list of activities, registration dates, and program period information is published in the Midweek prior to registration. Also accepts birds that are dropped off for West Nile testing.

(CCS) Hawaii Department of Human Services (DHS) is making it easier for impacted families to get monetary assistance for child care. They issued emergency rules that set aside many of the requirements usually in place. This means many more families will now be eligible for a special application period. Temporary changes include: -No income restrictions – subsidies are available to all families whose housing or employment have been affected by the fires, no matter the income -No activity requirements – parents will not have to meet work and other activity requirements, like being in school or training -No DHS co-payments -Extra time for missing documentation – families who do not have required eligibility documentation (e.g., proof of child citizenship and age, or state residency) have up to six months to provide paperwork -One-year eligibility – if a family is determined eligible, they will continue to receive that financial help for child care for a full year, no matter changes to income or work If your family was impacted by the fires and needs help paying for child care, please apply today. We know child care is necessary for you as you navigate the long road ahead toward recovery and rebuilding. Hawai‘i Council for the Humanities seeks to use the public humanities to nurture the joy of learning, and inspire community and civic engagement. We aim to bring the humanities to hard-to-reach and nontraditional audiences across the state. Our goal is to improve the quality of life in Hawai‘i through public programs that apply the humanities to everyday lives to help strengthen communities and encourage civic dialogue. Dreams help remind children in crisis that they are special and loved. Dream Imua, formerly A Keiki’s Dream, grants child-directed dreams to children 4-16 years old in crisis of any nature, such as abuse, neglect, homelessness or a major medical issues. This child-directed approach not only offers a reprieve from suffering, but validates the child’s self-worth, sending positive messages of support and encouragement, reminding the child what it is to have hope. This important program began in 1990 and became part of Imua Family Services in 2015. Over the last 30 years, the program has filled nearly 1,500 dreams from turning little girls into princesses and little boys into superheroes. The program offers children a chance to escape their difficult lives through helicopter rides, zip-lining, music lessons, horseback riding and more. Dream Imua relies on community support and involvement to help make these dreams a reality for those in need.
