(TANF, TAONF) The federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program provides temporary cash assistance to eligible families. The monthly cash assistance given to families may be used to pay for food, clothing, housing and utility expenses, and other daily needs. Eligible families include at least one specified relative adult and a minor dependent child who resides in the same home. In addition, family members must be US citizens. The State of Hawaii Temporary Assistance for Other Needy Families (TAONF) Program provides the same benefits and services to Hawaii’s vulnerable families with children as the TANF program. The TAONF program eligibility includes mixed citizens and non-citizens, and single- and two-parent households. The Department of Human Services (DHS) has received reports of fraudulent transactions statewide, but the reports are largely concentrated on the island of Oahu in the urban Honolulu area. What should I do if I suspect a fraudulent transaction has occurred with my EBT card? -DHS encourages all Financial or SNAP clients to be proactive and check their EBT account for unusual transactions. -Please visit the DHS Processing Center (PC) nearest to you to report any fraudulent transaction and to request a replacement card. Can DHS replace my benefits if they were stolen? -Clients who report lost benefits due to a fraudulent transaction must report the lost benefits to DHS and may request replacement of their SNAP benefit. -Congress passed a law in late 2022 to help SNAP participants who are victims of card skimming, cloning and other similar methods of activity. You may want to change your PIN at least one a month, prior to your benefit issuance date. -Know that you have the option to Freeze and Unfreeze your EBT card. When your EBT card is not in use, you can freeze your card and unfreeze your card when you need to use it again for purchases. -Block out-of-state and online transactions. Fraudulent transactions have been reported to occur with online and out-of-state transactions. You may block these types of purchase when you are not traveling out of state or not shopping online. -Beware of Phishing schemes. State agencies and EBT processors will never call or text you to ask for your PIN or card number. Be cautious when you receive these requests and do not share your personal information. Chamber Music Hawaii’s innovative education programs are designed to inspire, engage, and meet the needs of not only our local music directors and students, but all of our community members near and far. Each year, CMH’s three resident ensembles reach over 3,500 students, parents, teachers, administrators, and community members on all six major Hawaiian Islands, through the help of generous grant support. Our curated online modules and in-person sessions are flexible and adaptable; our most common clinic formats are: “Chamber Chats” Presentation / Demonstration In this highly requested format, the ensemble members share about their individual instruments, perform musical demonstrations, and engage with the students/audience on certain talking points within the music. Topics covered can include solid tone productions, proper posture, working as a group, etc. This style of clinic allows for a great amount of versatility so that we can present topics relative to those participating. Side-by-side This format highlights the joy and energy of performing music together between artists and students. Each member of the ensemble sits in a specific section in the band or orchestra and plays along with the students. This allows the students to interact with our artists through the music being rehearsed and provides a quick and intense learning environment. It is a highly effective way to teach the students how to communicate through music. Sectional and Individual Coaching Impactful learning is especially effective in one-on-one arrangements. Sometimes a band or orchestra director would like individual artists of the chamber ensemble to help specific instrumental sections work on the music the class is preparing. One-on-one coachings are also offered in cases where a student may need a little extra assistance, or where a student could benefit from more advanced tutoring. (Kauai Teen Court) Teen Court is a collaborative effort between the Kauai Police Department (KPD), Prosecutor, County of Kauai, Family Court Fifth Circuit, Hale 'Opio Kaua'i, Inc, and youth serving public and private sector agencies to provide a diversionary program from Family Court for first time misdemeanor or status offending youth between the ages of 10 and 18. Juveniles who have admitted guilt and are prepared to be sentenced by their peers will be given a hearing. Teen Court judges selected from a pool of practicing judges, attorneys, and trained teens serve as court officers. Sentences may include referral to mediation or anger management classes, substance abuse counseling, tutoring, or to a mentor. All youth completing sentencing serve on at least three juries.

(TRY, TRY Center, Community Teen Program - KPT - Middle and High School) Parents And Children Together's Community Tenacious Rooted Youth (TRY) Centers in Kuhio Park Terrace and Puuwai Momi public housing provides comprehensive development programs for youth who live in and around the housing complexes. After school programs promote the development of youth, families, and communities by providing educational activities and experiences including STEM projects, sports and recreation, community service, skill building, and support services. Programs support the growth and development of our youth by teaching leadership and life skills and encouraging positive experiences as alternatives to drugs and gangs. TRY Center activities are free and open to family residents of public housing complexes in the respective areas. Opens at 1:30 pm on Wednesdays during the school year. Extended hours offered during summer and school intersessions. Intake form is good for 1 year.

(West Hawaii Processing Center - Ka'u) The federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides crucial food and nutritional support to qualifying low-income and needy households, and those making the transition from welfare to self-sufficiency. The SNAP processing center provides public assistance, food stamps (SNAP) and financial assistance, to eligible individuals and families. They handle new applications and ongoing assistance. A paper copy of the application can be downloaded, printed, signed and submitted via US postal mail or dropped off in the drop box.
