Hawai‘i Council for the Humanities seeks to use the public humanities to nurture the joy of learning, and inspire community and civic engagement. We aim to bring the humanities to hard-to-reach and nontraditional audiences across the state. Our goal is to improve the quality of life in Hawai‘i through public programs that apply the humanities to everyday lives to help strengthen communities and encourage civic dialogue. We provide grants in support of public humanities projects that: 1. Use humanities areas of study (philosophy, history, literary studies, etc.) to further community understanding of local, national, and world history, diverse cultural traditions and ethical issues (humanities public program grants). 2. FHLC (Family History Library Catalog): Computer-produced catalog describes all the books, films, pamphlets, maps, etc., available at the main library in Salt Lake City. 2. IGI (International Genealogical Index): A worldwide list of names and selected vital data of more than 150 million people. 3. Ancestral File: Is pedigree linked and can be grouped in families. 4. Social Security Death Index: Lists about 38 million deceased persons who had Social Security numbers, and whose deaths were reported to that administration. 5. US Military Index: Index of individuals in the United States military who died, or were declared dead, in Korea or Vietnam (1950-1975). 6. Personal Ancestor File software available for use on computers on library to make your own family records. 7. Hawaii delayed birth records index on computer.

(La Ohana Day at Waikalua Loko Iʻa) Come volunteer to help restore an ancient Hawaiian fishpond. Service activities include removing invasive plants, rebuilding stone walls, and collecting fish.

This school is an alternative learning center for the DOE Central District's most severely "alienated" youth, providing training in basic skills areas. GED preparation is also available in the evenings to both youth and adults.

The State of Hawaii Temporary Assistance for Other Needy Families (TAONF) Program provides the same benefits and services to Hawaii’s vulnerable families with children as the TANF program. The TAONF program eligibility includes mixed citizens and non-citizens, and single- and two-parent households.
