The Office of Housing and Community Development is responsible for the planning, administration and operation of all of the County of Hawai‘i’s housing programs such as the Section 8 rental assistance for qualified families. Its overall goal is to provide for the development of viable communities in Hawaii County by providing decent housing, suitable living environments and expanding economic opportunities.

(DOTAX) State of Hawaii Department of Taxation - Oahu collects State taxes, provides information and assistance on preparation of tax forms, provides assistance to the elderly and the disabled in filing State tax credits, issues general excise tax licenses, and furnishes State tax forms. The office handles applications for Federal Employer Identification Numbers on a limited basis and walk-ins only. They receive requests for copies of State tax returns and processes tax clearances, walk-ins, mail-ins, fax-ins or refiles. Shelter of Wisdom rents homes which are shared by our men. Men live in double rooms with shared living areas and house chores. We provide intensive case management until our men are accepted into permanent housing. We provide household furnishings for their new homes, which are donated to us by the community. Men must maintain their sobriety, hygiene, medications, meal preparation, laundry, housekeeping and behavior.

(SFMNP) Hawaii’s Senior Farmers' Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) offers eligible seniors $50 worth of coupons (10 coupons valued at $5 each) to obtain eligible foods without charge from participating farmers, farmers’ markets and roadside stands that have been approved to accept SFMNP coupons. Applications accepted starting April 1st. The program runs April 1st - October 31st. Maximum household income of 185% or below of the US Federal Poverty Guidelines. (TANF, TAONF) The federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program provides temporary cash assistance to eligible families. The monthly cash assistance given to families may be used to pay for food, clothing, housing and utility expenses, and other daily needs. Eligible families include at least one specified relative adult and a minor dependent child who resides in the same home. In addition, family members must be US citizens. The State of Hawaii Temporary Assistance for Other Needy Families (TAONF) Program provides the same benefits and services to Hawaii’s vulnerable families with children as the TANF program. The TAONF program eligibility includes mixed citizens and non-citizens, and single- and two-parent households.
