(Domestic Violence Shelter, Domestic Abuse Shelter - Hilo) Domestic Abuse Shelters provide a safe haven for abused partners and their children. It is a time-out period for abused partners to learn about the dynamics of domestic violence, the cycle of abuse and how to develop a "safety plan". It is also a time for learning about and making choices; discovering that they are not at fault for the abuse; building self-esteem and learning self-empowerment. The Domestic Abuse Shelters help families and children escape from domestic violence and establish independent lives. The shelter offers up to 120 days of a safe haven, basic needs (food, clothing etc.), counseling and services for children. Program participants learn dynamics of domestic violence, develop safety plans, improve self-esteem and learn healthy parenting skills. Children develop safety plans and learn they’re not responsible for domestic violence. (EFSP) Waimanalo Health Center provides primary and preventive services which includes medical, dental, behavioral health, vision services, pharmacy services, nutrition counseling, outreach and eligibility. Telehealth is available.

Provides comprehensive social work services to seriously mentally ill adults including assessment, assistance in development of individualized service plan. Provides advocacy, and supportive counseling. Assists farmers, small growers and small processed food manufacturers by providing a place to market fruit, flowers, plants, vegetables and fish. Craft items also may be sold.

Hawaii Agricultural Foundation provides teacher trainings. Teacher trainings for Veggie U are island specific trainings with 1-2 trainings per year. Veggie U is a hands-on science program that empowers students to become growers in their own classrooms. Using a classroom garden kit, students plant, care for, and harvest vegetables while learning about nutrition, sustainability, and healthy eating. The program deepens appreciation for local food, encourages healthier lifestyles, and connects youth to the importance of agriculture in everyday life. Quarterly virtual check-ins provide teachers with timely updates, opportunities to discuss topics of interest, and a space to collaborate and share classroom experiences with fellow educators.

(Homeless Careavan Program) Provides outreach for homeless individuals. Currently uses van, Care-A-Van outreach specialist to travel to beaches/parks and other areas on Kauai where homeless people live or congregate. (Hawaii County Third Circuit Hale Kaulike Self Help Center) The Hilo Court Self-Help Center will provide legal help to the East Hawaii community on a pilot basis. Volunteer attorneys from the Hawaii County Bar Association will provide limited legal information by telephone in areas such as landlord-tenant, family, and other district court matters.
