Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and Temporary Assistance for Other Needy

(TANF, TAONF) The federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program provides temporary cash assistance to eligible families. The monthly cash assistance given to families may be used to pay for food, clothing, housing and utility expenses, and other daily needs. Eligible families include at least one specified relative adult and a minor dependent child who resides in the same home. In addition, family members must be US citizens. The State of Hawaii Temporary Assistance for Other Needy Families (TAONF) Program provides the same benefits and services to Hawaii’s vulnerable families with children as the TANF program. The TAONF program eligibility includes mixed citizens and non-citizens, and single- and two-parent households. Each household receives one bag of groceries and one bag of fresh vegetables and/or frozen items. Households with 4 or more members receives two bags of groceries and two bags of fresh vegetables and/or frozen items. Clients need to register with the Food Pantry to qualify when they receive their food items for the first time. Food donations of canned fruits, meats, soup, beans, vegetables, cereal, and juice are welcome. Any food donations can be left in the food donation bin at the entrance of the church.
