The City and County of Honolulu Department of Planning and Permitting (DPP) provides information on how to apply for building permits related to the Kona Low. When applying for a building permit in HNL Build that is for work related to the Kona low, please follow the instructions below. If you have an HNL Build account, please sign in. Please select your permit type. Note: If the type of work you are performing would normally qualify for a Quick Permit, please select Building Permit Application instead. This ensures our team can thoroughly review your specific scope of work. Step 3. Label Your Project. If this first permit you are applying for that is related to the Kona low, check the “New Project” box and enter “Kona Low Rebuild” as the project name. If you are applying for additional permits, continue to use the same “Kona Low Rebuild” project each time. Do not create a new project. Step 4. Submission Page. Proceed with your application until you reach the Submission Requests page. If your project does not require formal plans, please upload photos of the property damage instead. This fulfills the system’s upload requirement and allows you to complete your submission in HNL Build. If our staff believe your project does need plans, they will contact you. Step 5. Notify DPP. After submitting your application, send an email to [email protected]. Include your application number and state that the repairs are due to the Kona Low. Our team will then add your permit to our priority list for faster review. ---The Department of Planning and Permitting (DPP) will host a “Rebuild Oahu” event this Saturday, April 18, 2026 9:00 am - 5:00 pm at the Community Assistance Center located in the Waialua District Park gymnasium. To help residents make the most of their visit, DPP is offering free, one-on-one prescheduled appointments with staff throughout the day. Each 20-minute session will focus on helping participants navigate the process to repair or rebuild their home or business, including questions about zoning, permitting pathways, and any required approvals. (Ma Ka Hana Ka Ike) Ma Ka Hana Ka 'Ike ("In Working, One Learns") is a hands-on vocational skills training program for at-risk high-school youth in Hana, Maui. The mission of our program is to provide Hana's youth with a way to learn that makes sense to them, that builds their self-esteem and shows them they have the power to change their future. By applying academics to real-life situations, our program gives students tangible skills that translate into valuable life experience, while our after-school training component provides much-needed employment in our community. We've established partnerships with other area nonprofits to identify community members who'll best benefit from our students' vocational education. Our goals include transforming the behavioral patterns of at-risk youth, creating an appreciation of learning, building community relationships, responding to real school and community needs, and offering skills of self-sustenance to the remote Hana region.

(Malama Aina Foundation) This program provides students and their facilitators from Native Hawaiian communities with hands-on learning activities combined with the experience of Hawaiian cultural values and practices, to achieve academic success in math and science. Activities include: 1. In-school science and math support for middle school students and teachers through curriculum training and supplement, tutoring, teaching, and mentoring; 2. After school hands-on STEM and Hawaiian cultural experiences, increasing student knowledge of STEM content as aligned to the common core math and next generation science standards; and 3. During intersession and summer breaks, expose students to STEM by integrating math and science with Hawaiian cultural practices.

We are a self-help program. 24 hour help line for anyone seeking support for their alcohol use. We will assist with coordination of 12 step work (where one person who has arrested their drinking problem will work with someone who has a desire to stop drinking alcohol). We provide information about the over 300 local AA meetings on Oahu. Volunteers who answer the phones may share experiences with alcoholism and recovery with callers to provide support and encouragement.
