(Volunteer Legal Services Hawaii) Volunteer Legal Services Hawaii (VLSH) is the only organization in the state whose sole mission is to serve people in Hawaii with low to moderate income community through volunteer attorneys. Volunteer Legal’s pool of pro bono attorneys provide legal services in a wide range of civil matters, including divorces, paternities, custodies, child support, guardianships, adoptions, powers of attorney, wills, healthcare directives, landlord-tenant cases, collections, and Chapter 7 bankruptcies. Neighborhood Advice and Counsel clinics are being held in-person and via telephone. Clients are responsible for all legal deadlines associated with their case. We experience a high volume of calls. Please leave a brief message with your name, number, and brief description of your legal issue. Your call will be returned in the order it was received, generally within 48 to 72 hours.

Purple Van Food Program

The Private Sector Hawaii serves the North Shore of Oahu only: Mokuleia, Waialua, Haleiwa, Sunset Beach, Kahuku. Food boxes are delivered after an individual calls and requests a box. A recipient must call every time they need a food box. Our goal is to deliver the box within a week of a call, though we have been behind due to increased requests. Recipients can expect to receive one food box a month. This is an all volunteer charity and we deliver food boxes as volunteers are available. If someone has an emergency need for food, we will get a box to them immediately. No on site distribution.

Veterans Legal Assistance - Kauai

(VLA) The VLA project focuses on disabled and elderly veterans and family members who are residents of the state of Hawaii and who want assistance with filing benefits claims with the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. Also offers referrals to volunteer attorneys through VLSH's pro bono program for legal advice and direct services for: Family Law, Tenant Rights, Collections and Bankruptcy, Estate Planning/Probate, Re-Employment and Community Service Program (Oahu only).

Stroke Rehabilitation Program

Assists persons recovering from mild to catastrophic strokes who may need to make major physical and psychological adjustments to cope with paralysis, speech problems, cognitive deficits, swallowing disorders, and visual perception difficulties. Assesses and treats swallowing disorders. Provides mobility training or wheelchair skills. Develops adaptive techniques and custom-designed equipment. Provides speech theraphy. Computer therapy for visual, perceptual, and cognitive training. Stroke Support Group meets every first Tuesday of each month from 10:00 am - 11:30 am at the Rehabilitation Hospital of the Pacific. Everyone (patient, family, caregivers, etc.) is welcome, there is no membership fee.

Therapeutic Crisis Home - West Hawaii Island

(Therapeutic Crisis Homes) The Therapeutic Crisis Homes (TCH) program provides youth the opportunity to stabilize with trained TCH parents who provide them with support and guidance they need to return to their families safely. Services are offered to each youth based on his/her individual needs. Youth are provided with individual counseling and family counseling with the ultimate goal of reunification with their families within 3 to 7 days. Crisis Home Parents provide a safe environment for youth ages 5 years old - 17 years old to stabilize their emotional and physical situation in time of crisis. Services included support, guidance and individual as well as family counseling to stabilize the situation so that youth can reunite with their families within 3-7 days. Trained staff professionals also help to develop an after-care plan for families and referrals to public and private follow-up services.
