The federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) provides crucial food and nutritional support to qualifying low-income and needy households, and those making the transition from welfare to self-sufficiency. The SNAP processing center provides public assistance, food stamps (SNAP) and financial assistance, to eligible individuals and families. They handle new applications and ongoing assistance. Administers and enforces standards of conduct provisions of the State Ethics Code, Chapter 84, Hawaii Revised Statues. Standards of conduct include provisions on conflicts of interests; gifts and reporting of gifts; fair treatment; confidential information; state contracts; and post employment. Standards apply to elected and appointed state officials, employees, and board and commission members. Standards do not apply to judges or to federal or county officials or employees. Administers and enforces financial disclosure requirements for state officials, employees, board and commission members, and candidates for state elective office. Administers and enforces the State Lobbyists Law, Chapter 97, Hawaii Revised Statutes. Lobbyists Law includes registration and reporting requirements for lobbyists and persons and organizations involved in lobbying the state legislative and executive branches.

(Domestic Violence Advocacy) Families who are enrolled in Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) or Temporary Assistance to Other Needy Families (more commonly known as “welfare”), are required to be engaged in activities that will ultimately lead them to self-sufficiency. Program recipients for whom issues of safety and domestic violence are interfering with their progress can call upon Domestic Violence Advocacy to help them find support to change their situations. Services include: assessment, service planning, counseling services, case management and linkage and referral.

(Family Peace Center - Maui) Maui Family Peace Center teaches non-violent problem-solving skills for families struggling with adult aggression and behavioral dysfunction, emphasizing partnership, equality, and respect among families. Support for survivors/victims and child witnesses of domestic violence that includes individual and group counseling, case management, parental classes, community referrals and legal system advocacy. Support for offenders includes violence intervention groups. Adolescent services provided free of charge for those in need of effective problem solving skills to manage anger and/or those exhibiting violent behavior and anger control issues; anyone can refer themselves or a family member. Community education and training for schools, community groups, and agencies available.

Enforces the Payment of Wages and Other Compensation, Hawaii Wage and Hour, Wages and Hours of Employees on Public Works, Unlawful Suspension or Discharge Due to Work Injury, Child Labor, and Hawaii Family Leave. (HCAP STEM) The Ha Initiative: Creative STEM After-School Program is a free Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) after-school program for youth in grades 2-8. The program provides year-round tutoring, mentorship, and fun STEM activities in a safe after-school setting at five STEM Exploration Center locations on Oʻahu.
