Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and Temporary Assistance for Other Needy

(TANF, TAONF) The federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program provides temporary cash assistance to eligible families. The monthly cash assistance given to families may be used to pay for food, clothing, housing and utility expenses, and other daily needs. Eligible families include at least one specified relative adult and a minor dependent child who resides in the same home. In addition, family members must be US citizens.
The State of Hawaii Temporary Assistance for Other Needy Families (TAONF) Program provides the same benefits and services to Hawaii’s vulnerable families with children as the TANF program. The TAONF program eligibility includes mixed citizens and non-citizens, and single- and two-parent households.

The program was launched to help the uninsured, but it can also be used to discount drugs not covered by health insurance. There are no applications, fees, resrtictions, or eligibility requirements. The Hawaii Rx Card is accepted at all chain pharmacies. No personal information is required to get the card; no personal information is collected on processed prescriptions.
