Dreams help remind children in crisis that they are special and loved. Dream Imua, formerly A Keiki’s Dream, grants child-directed dreams to children 4-16 years old in crisis of any nature, such as abuse, neglect, homelessness or a major medical issues. This child-directed approach not only offers a reprieve from suffering, but validates the child’s self-worth, sending positive messages of support and encouragement, reminding the child what it is to have hope. This important program began in 1990 and became part of Imua Family Services in 2015. Over the last 30 years, the program has filled nearly 1,500 dreams from turning little girls into princesses and little boys into superheroes. The program offers children a chance to escape their difficult lives through helicopter rides, zip-lining, music lessons, horseback riding and more. Dream Imua relies on community support and involvement to help make these dreams a reality for those in need.

Helping Hands Hawaii’s SNAP outreach program provides help with: -filling out the SNAP application for the Department of Human Services (DHS) -providing interpretive assistance to Limited English Proficient (LEP) individuals -facilitating submission of the application to the DHS offices -assisting with follow-up on application status as needed -helping SNAP benefit recipients to maintain those benefits -participating with DHS-contracted providers to conduct SNAP nutrition educational activities designed to ensure proper use of the SNAP benefit, including how to use the benefit and still be able to eat nutritious meals. Applicants may be eligible for SNAP if their household income meets Federal Income Guidelines. If the household appears to meet DHS eligibility requirements, they will be scheduled for an in-person interview with a SNAP outreach worker. Lunalilo Home is currently is licensed for 42 residents by the State of Hawaii Department of Health for Adult Residential Care Home (ARCH), Type II, and up to 20% of the beds for Expanded ARCH or EARCH, Type II. Residents of Lunalilo Home receive 24-hour supervised care and supportive services in an ohana (family) setting. Lunalilo Home is a private organization that is not funded by any state or federal programs. We do not directly bill Medicare or Medicaid for any of the services we provide; however, our residents may utilize Medicare and Medicaid as well as other health insurance for their medical needs. In recent years, Lunalilo Home has added elderly services including Adult Day Care, Respite Care, Meals-to-Go and Caregiver Support programs. In the coming years, Lunalilo Home plans to further enhance its services and facilities to increase its impact in the community and preserve the legacy of our kupuna and the Hawaiian people. (TANF, TAONF) The federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program provides temporary cash assistance to eligible families. The monthly cash assistance given to families may be used to pay for food, clothing, housing and utility expenses, and other daily needs. Eligible families include at least one specified relative adult and a minor dependent child who resides in the same home. In addition, family members must be US citizens. The State of Hawaii Temporary Assistance for Other Needy Families (TAONF) Program provides the same benefits and services to Hawaii’s vulnerable families with children as the TANF program. The TAONF program eligibility includes mixed citizens and non-citizens, and single- and two-parent households.
