A weeklong camp experience for children in Hawaii who have or have had cancer, ages 7 years old - 18 years old

Works with children of West Hawaii who have been traumatized by sexual assault, physical abuse or neglect, or who are witnesses to violent crime. Goal is to "help a victim become a child again."

Maintains information resources, i.e. books, magazines, musical recordings, video and audio tapes, State and County government documents and Hawaiiana materials. Provides fax service to send messages to State legislators. Provides access to Hawaii FYI and telephone reference service. Also provides U.S. Passports at several library locations. Will investigate complaints in the following areas: advertising, art galleries, car rentals, charitable solicitations, collection practices, credit sales, door-to-door sales, health clubs, interest and usury, investment schemes, Made-in-Hawaii goods, refunds and exchanges, unaccredited degree granting institutions, unfair or deceptive trade practices, unsolicited goods, or undisclosed charges.

Prevents and suppresses outbreaks of vector-borne diseases and serious vector nuisances through inspections, surveillance, monitoring, enforcement, consultation and education in the control of harmful vermin such as insects that bite or are a public nuisance such as ants, sand flies, and other insects. Also gives public advice on small animals and insects causing a problem in or near a home or building such as mice, roaches, flies, gnats, mites, rats, and nesting birds. Offers information and advice to individuals experiencing pest problems. Accepts birds that the public drops off for West Nile testing. They no longer spray for mosquitos.

Accepts information on missing persons. HPD does not handle driver's licensing or motor vehicle registration, abandoned vehicles or safety inspections (these are provided by Department of Finance, Motor Vehicle & Licensing Division).

(ROPES) Offers a program designed to enhance self-esteem, teamwork, develop confidence and increase trust in others. Open to community groups and businesses. Consists of a specially designed obstacle course with cable ropes, pulleys and wooden beams.

(HDB) Provides diapers, wipes, and other basic essentials for low-income families of young children birth to 5 years old.

Operates an adult day health program which provides therapeutic services and treatments including nursing care, recreational therapy and social services. Designed for persons at risk for long term care placement. Accepts volunteers 16 years old or older, to assist in transporting residents, general office duties, music leaders, craft assistants, active games, religious services, pet therapy, ethnic groups, sewing craft projects, etc.

Parents And Children Together (PACT) provides a confidential facility available around the clock for survivors and their children in crisis. Services include safety planning, case management, and referrals to legal, medical, financial, and housing assistance. If you are in an abusive relationship with your spouse or partner, call the Domestic Violence Shelter Access and Crisis Line. A staff member will speak with you over the phone to see how we can best help you and provide resources that are available through our shelter program or another agency. Your call is completely confidential.
