Hawaiian Council is offering up to $5,000 in financial assistance to help individuals and families replace vehicles lost due to the recent floods and storms. This program is designed to restore mobility and support impacted households in returning to work, school, and daily life. Award amounts will be based on demonstrated need and the verified funding gap, up to a maximum of $5,000. Funds will help with purchasing a replacement vehicle, reimbursement of a vehicle that was already purchased, or help with an existing auto loan balance. (Monkeypox, Disease Outbreak Control Division - Monkeypox) Mpox (Monkeypox) is a contagious disease caused by the mpox virus. There is currently an outbreak of mpox in the U.S. and other countries where the virus is not usually seen. The current mpox situation is evolving quickly and is subject to change. Mpox (Monkeypox) risk in Hawaii: Department of Health (DOH) is closely monitoring mpox transmission in the United States and Hawaii. Based on the current information available, the risk to most Hawaiʻi residents remains low. Anyone who had direct skin to skin or prolonged close contact with someone with mpox is at risk of infection— regardless of who they are, what they do, or if they are sexually active. Infection begins with flu-like symptoms such as fever, headache, muscle aches, chills, exhaustion, and swollen lymph nodes. Infection progresses to a rash or sores, often on the hands, feet, chest, face, or genitals. Individuals generally become ill within 21 days of exposure. People may have all of the symptoms or only a few. A person with mpox is infectious when symptoms start to when the rash has fully healed and a new layer of skin has formed. Mpox typically lasts 2-4 weeks. People who do not have mpox symptoms cannot spread the virus to others. Many of the same measures that have protected us in the last two years with the COVID-19 pandemic also prevent spread of other diseases, including mpox. This includes staying home if you’re sick, washing your hands, and limiting close personal contact with people who have symptoms of mpox. Individuals who have symptoms consistent with mpox should contact their healthcare provider. Make sure to call ahead and mention that you may have been exposed to mpox. Parent Participation Preschool is a three-phased program for parents to assist in their child's transition from home to school. Each phase requires a different amount of participation. The children progress through the program based on their development and mastered skills not age. -Pueo (Phase 1): Children begin a foundational program where they are introduced to a more structured learning environment. The programs main focuses are colors, shapes, letter recognition, and more. The class meets twice a week for 2 hours. This class requires 100% parents participation. -Honu (Phase 2): Children entering Honu possess some basic, fundamental preschool abilities and are inspired to work independently, explore academics, use their creativity, and learn the importance of a daily routine. (H-HEAP, Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program - Energy Crisis Intervention - Leeward, LIHEAP ECI, ECI) Hawaii Home Energy Assistance Program (H-HEAP) Energy Crisis Intervention (ECI) is designed to help families keep their utilities (gas or electric) on, especially those households that are most vulnerable, such as the elderly, the disabled, and households with young children. H-HEAP primarily assists households by applying an energy assistance grant directly to the energy provider on behalf of the eligible household. Applications are accepted year-round.
