(E-Kokua Club) The Epilepsy Foundation of Hawaii (EFH) offers a free membership to the E-Kokua Club to children, teens, adults, and caregivers. Through monthly cultural healing activities (hula, lei-making, ukulele, art therapy), peer support groups, and seizure first aid education, the E-Kokua Club provides a welcoming, stigma-free community where families can learn, connect, and thrive. In addition, EFH is the local manager of the National Epilepsy Helpline for Hawaii. (Domestic Violence Shelter, Domestic Abuse Shelter - Hilo) Domestic Abuse Shelters provide a safe haven for abused partners and their children. It is a time-out period for abused partners to learn about the dynamics of domestic violence, the cycle of abuse and how to develop a "safety plan". It is also a time for learning about and making choices; discovering that they are not at fault for the abuse; building self-esteem and learning self-empowerment. The Domestic Abuse Shelters help families and children escape from domestic violence and establish independent lives. The shelter offers up to 120 days of a safe haven, basic needs (food, clothing etc.), counseling and services for children. Program participants learn dynamics of domestic violence, develop safety plans, improve self-esteem and learn healthy parenting skills. Children develop safety plans and learn they’re not responsible for domestic violence. (ADRC) The Aging and Disability Resource Center is the source for individuals who are aging and have disabilities to get impartial information about support and services that help them remain living at home as long as possible with dignity and quality of life. The ADRC staff members provide Options Counseling. It's a process that assists you to make informed decisions to select the long term services and support you need to age well and maintain independence. The ADRC is for people of all incomes and ages, to help you make plans that carry out your individual needs and preferences. It is also a point of access for all publically funded long term support programs and benefits. ADRC is operated by the State of Hawaii in cooperation with the four county governments.
