(Ma Ka Hana Ka Ike) Ma Ka Hana Ka 'Ike ("In Working, One Learns") is a hands-on vocational skills training program for at-risk high-school youth in Hana, Maui. The mission of our program is to provide Hana's youth with a way to learn that makes sense to them, that builds their self-esteem and shows them they have the power to change their future. By applying academics to real-life situations, our program gives students tangible skills that translate into valuable life experience, while our after-school training component provides much-needed employment in our community. We've established partnerships with other area nonprofits to identify community members who'll best benefit from our students' vocational education. Our goals include transforming the behavioral patterns of at-risk youth, creating an appreciation of learning, building community relationships, responding to real school and community needs, and offering skills of self-sustenance to the remote Hana region.

Early Intervention Services are for children from birth to age three who have developmental concerns and focuses on improving the physical, cognitive, communicative, adaptive, social and emotional development of the child. As parents are the child’s first teachers, services are provided through one primary early intervention professional using parent coaching strategies. In addition, the program helps families by providing information, demonstrations and support to caregivers that helps them better understand their children’s developmental needs and how to meet them. Care coordination is available to help families utilize resources at home and in the community. We support, educate and advocate for choice at the end of life. We support individuals as they navigate their way through the health care system. We support legislation relating to choice in dying as well as work to stop legislation that restricts choice. We advocate for those whose end-of-life wishes are not being followed. We provide state-specific advance directives and information on how to complete these documents. Proponents of aid in dying for incurable and terminally ill mentally competent persons, requesting aid in dying to achieve a peaceful death.

(Hale Hoomalu) Provides services to individuals who are experiencing domestic violence or threatened with same. Offers assistance in obtaining temporary restraining orders (TRO) and complying with related court appearances. Provides court advocacy and support. Offers protective services for families with abused or neglected children through the TRO process (if applicable). Provides psycho-educational groups (both court ordered and voluntary) to men who batter. Provides on-going support groups for victims of domestic violence.

(CCSS) Focuses on helping parents learn better parenting skills. Also teaches children skill building. Provides counseling to address selected issues. Parenting groups also available for parents who want to increase their parenting skills. Current classes held in Hilo, Kurtistown and Pahoa.

Serves as the Area Agency on Aging and focal point for aging programs for the City and County of Honolulu designated under the Older Americans Act of 1965: 1) Plans, coordinates, advocates for and develops community based programs and services to meet the growing needs of older adults and their family caregivers 2) Contracts with agencies to provide supportive and long term care services that help elders remain at home 3) administers Senior Information and Assistance Program. Elderly Affairs Division is primarily an admnistrative agency which plans, develops, coordinates, and funds aging and caregiver programs. It also provides direct information and referral services to the public through its Senior Information and Assistance Unit.
