(TANF, TAONF) The federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) Program provides temporary cash assistance to eligible families. The monthly cash assistance given to families may be used to pay for food, clothing, housing and utility expenses, and other daily needs. Eligible families include at least one specified relative adult and a minor dependent child who resides in the same home. In addition, family members must be US citizens. The State of Hawaii Temporary Assistance for Other Needy Families (TAONF) Program provides the same benefits and services to Hawaii’s vulnerable families with children as the TANF program. The TAONF program eligibility includes mixed citizens and non-citizens, and single- and two-parent households. Operates a private adoption referral service, established to meet the needs of the birthmother who chooses or feels that she cannot parent at this time in her life. During counseling, these women personally select an adoptive family from service files. If needed, offers housing or relocation service. After the adoption, continues to provide counseling throughout the readjustment period.

(WAP) Assists qualifying households to reduce utility costs by providing a variety of energy efficient measures including LED light bulbs, ENERGY STAR appliances, solar water heaters, energy-efficient showerheads, faucets aerators, and more free of charge. (KIPC, Car Seat and Booster Seat Safety, CPS) Keiki Injury Prevention Coalition (KIPC) provides a network of Car Seat Inspection Stations, technicians, and instructors certified in caregiver education on correct child restraint use and installation. KIPC provides appointments at Inspection Stations and conducts car seat checks at community events on Oahu. KIPC also provides standardized certification training for new technicians, and updates for those currently certified.
